Problems of HCM Step "Define Target Areas for Users"

Dear experts,

ERP Initial Package for HCM Personnel Dev. PD & PA

-> Configuration and Selection -> Customizing -> Define Target Areas for Users. I don't understand the usage of this step.

(1) Is the value range used to select the data in the sender system ?

(2) Do I need to define one target area for each object type?

(3) If don't maintain all the object types, what will happen to the object types not maintianed here?

(4) When can I find a the list of all the object types?

Thanks,

Claire

Hello Claire,

The activity 'Define Target Areas for Users' restricts each user to a target area ( range of personnel numbers) in the receiver system, and this user can only over write or insert the transferred PERNR's to this target area. The advantage of this step is to prevent users overwriting each others data.

Please find the answers below for your questions :

(1) Is the value range used to select the data in the sender system ?

No, the value range mentioned in this step is only for the receiver system, it specifies to which value range the transferred pernr's ( from sender system) has to be overwritten. The pernr range to select the data in the sender system has to be mentioned in the activity 'Transfer Selection Criteria'.

(2) Do I need to define one target area for each object type?

Target area has to be defined for each object type, for which it has to be transferred.

(3) If don't maintain all the object types, what will happen to the object types not maintianed here?

Only object types that are maintained will only be transferred.

(4) When can I find a the list of all the object types?

Use F4 help for that field, you can find all the object types.

Best Regards,

Prasanth

Hi,

Define Target Areas for Users activity is optional within a package but must have been carried out at least once. It is not possible for a user to transfer data unless target ranges for all applicable object types have been defined.

You need to maintain all the obejct types here.

Krishna Prasad.

Hello

We also have the same issue. We want to transfer only P type object and we define the range in the Define Target Area from User Activity. When we try to execute the activity in Transfer Selection Criteria we are getting error -- the target range table contains no valid data for your user.

I have checked the data (By Using PA20) for the object I am interested in and it is available in Sender and Receiver System. Does the other object also needs to be define in Define Target Area Activity.

Please let me know.

Thank you

Hello Dhiren,

You need to register the TDMS User in the 'Define Target Areas for users', who is transferring the data.

If the user does not have key target range, then he would not able to transfer the data.

So register the user at the package level ( or project or subproject level ) in the activity 'Define target areas for users', who is transferrring the data.

if u still face any issues after that, please let me know.

Hello Prasanth

Thanks for the reply. The user is registered at sub project level and we also provided range and user ID in Define Target Area Activity and then we executed data transfer activity again but it is still showing the same error message. We also tried to provide diffrent range of data but no luck.

Thank you

Hi Dhiren Sejpal,

Target ranges have to be properly defined accoring to your selection criteria.

if you are transferring 1:1 without change then PERNR you have selected for transfer should be in the range of the defined target ranges.

Example: you are transferring PERNR '1234'.

You have selected target options : Transfer 1:1 without change

You have defined in target ranges for 1 to 1000.

In this scenario, TDMS tries to check if 1234 falls in range 1 to 1000. If not it throws an error. Check if you have done something similar to this.

Thanks Naveen for your reply,

In Define Target Area for User, we selected only P as the object type, we did not select any other object type in defibe target area. Then for range we selected 2 to 2 as we only want to select PERNR 2. For the variant we used a * and for the max records we used 1". Are we missing something here?

When we are executing Transfer selection criteria we are getting error target range table contain no valid data. We are not even reaching to the activity where we have to provide PERNR for Transfer.

Thank you

Hi Dhiren,

just a little question. Which user have you defined?

Your User or the RFC - User which communicates whit your Receiver - System?

Marco-

Thanks for the reply. Yes we were not using our IDs in RFC. This was resolved by using our own IDs instead of the communication user.
