Hi,

I have done homogenous system copy and target system is up now and it is working now.

I have done the source export four days back and now the source and target systems are in two different levels. The database structure are also different in both systems , the no of data files are different. I have got offline archive logs upto the current level in my source system and how to bring to current level in the target database. Pls give your valid support to sort the issue.

Regards

SK

Hello Dinesh,

sorry your post is a little bit confusing .. so let me clarify some things, if i understand you correct.

1) You have performed a system copy with Export/Import (R3load)

2) Now the content/structures of the source and the target system are different

3) You want to "recover" the target system to an actual state of the source system with the archive logs

If this is correct.. then you can't recover your target system to an actual state with the archive logs. If you want an actual target system you have to perform a system copy with Export/Import again.

This limitation is system related.

Hi,

What you understood is correct. The structure of the target system is changed as I am forced to add datafile at the time import. But I have opened the database and I logged into SAP. But if this is limitation of system how oracle data guard works?. I am planning to configure the stand by server. In the next export/import same process going to happen and end in the same result. It will take more than 24 hrs to carry out export/import and I may force to create new data files also. I read in data guard manual we can either go for Redo apply or Sql apply. Pls give valid solutions to sort out this issue.

HI Dinesh,

SAP does only support physical standby (via redologs) with Oracle databases.

And, yes, once you opened the target database for read/write operations there is no way to apply any further redologs.

Hi,

I am planning to install a standby server using oracle data guard. In this scenario how best can I do the homogenous copy. The harware type & software version of source and target systems are same. The source system contains 12GB RAM & 450 GB HDD and target system contains 6GB RAM & 280 GB HDD. But the OS version, Oracle version , R3 version are same & both servers are X64 bit. The Source sytem is Quad-core AMD and the target system is AMD.

Please give me your valid solutions for the same

Hmm... usually a homogenous system copy does not require an export.

It's just copying the datafiles by using a backup of the source database.

Ahem - did you just add new datafiles to the source system after you made the initial copy or is the structure really completely different?

Have there been any changes to the copied system, e.g. did you OPEN the target database and worked with it?

If the answer to this is 'YES, sure!' then the archive log files of the source system cannot be applied to the target system anymore.

You'd have to restore the datafiles from the initial copy and recover the archive logs based on them.
