Difference between General Item category group and Item category group

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me the difference between General Item category group and Item category group maintained in Sales:sales org. 2 in material master?

Dear Shanu,

Please do search in this Forum as this has been already answered several times.

FYI: General Item Category group will be assigned to the material type in OMS2 transaction.

This will be automatically copied to the material master according to the material type chosen.

All the materials will be having General Item Category group.

Item Category Group in Sales Org.2 view of material master:

This comes into picture only when the material is involved in Sales Process.

Ex: This item category group will be used in determining the item category for a material in a sale order.

If you don't want to sell the material - you no need to use the Sales Org view in material master.

Hi Jain

The item category group in sales orgn 2 tab in MMR determines how a material is processed in the sales order

The General Item category group is used for the material type .and that is the reason we assign the

General item category group in OMS2 . Another thing is because of General item category group only the material type behaves
