changing the \usr\sap directory

Former Member

hi all,

i have currently installed sap erp6.0 abap on windows 2003 and oracle 10g platform. I have made a mistake on pointing the \usr\sap directory to different drive. i installed it on a sapdata directory. the installation was sucessful. now, i need to move \usr\sap to the correct directory. what would be my steps to do this? this is what im thinking of:

1. uninstall the erp using sapinst without dropping the database

2. install it again and point \usr\sap to the correct drive

will it be this simple? if ever, what problems would i encounter?

hope you can help me with the proper steps to do this..

thank you very much..

Hi Je,

Run the SAPINST, there should be the option to install CI(Install>>>Central instance). This is the normal process "How you installed first time".

Situation: You have not installed CI(CI deleted in your scenario) Only database is existing.

Yes Jeb,

It almost like, but here you can use your old DB.

Just you are installing central instance on existing database.

Hi Jeb,

Just uninst the CI, leave DB as it is.

Then install CI again, this is the better way to change your file system.

Let us know if any queries/clarifications.

You can do that there should not be any issue, if it is a production system then i would suggest the same

Yes.

it is not so much complicated.

in /usr directory there are different folder and file exists

CCMS

TRANS

SID

that means you not only point one directory you point so many directory and files which is required to run SAP. there will not be any issue but suppose if this drive will crash you cannot restore the database because all the files which required to eun sap you will lost

Hi jeb,

If the sap is working fine leave the directories as is, Instead change the sapdata folder to a different location by using brtools.

hope this would help you.
