Hi all,
I am going for a system refresh using BACKUP RESTORE method.
But i have some doubt, after throughing the restore command system will prompts below warning that source and target SIDs are different. After this should system automatically restores the entire source datafiles into target database or do we need to set some parameters to restore into different SID?
BR0454W Values of oracle_sid are different: current 'QAS', backup bdxrjktu.ant 'PRO'
BR0455W Value 'QAS' of oracle_sid will be used for restore
BR0454W Values of oracle_home are different: current '/oracle/QAS/920_64', backup bdxrjktu.ant '/ora
cle/PRO/920_64'
BR0455W Value '/oracle/QAS/920_64' of oracle_home will be used for restore

Hi Nitin,
Thanks for your quick resp.
For all: Please do not understand this as SID change for existing system
This is a quality refresh. But i want to do the same using BACKUP RESTORE method.
Steps to do this:
1)I will take full online backup of souce system
2)Restore backup into target system.
3)Perform post installation/db copy steps.
But when performing 2nd step i have bit doubt. There SIDs should be different.
System automatically restores source database to target or do i need to change any parameters to restore?
This doubt after giving the command brrestore -b filename -m full

if you doing Homogeneous system copy using oracle backup\restore, one of the prerequisites :
The backup must be done offline.
Sergo,
Sorry to disagree. I am doing it with online backups all the time.
As far as I know the homogeneous system copy guide doesn't say that you have to use offline backups.
Nick,
you may ignore the warnings in your first post. This is just the way it works; nothing but warnings, to make sure you really know what you are doing.
And you will need to recover database as mentioned in the homogeneous system copy guide.
regards
Hello Joe Bo. I can't say it impossible, but in system copy guide about Oracle backup/restore you can read : (example)
Prerequisites
You must use the same Oracle release and patch level for your database in the source and target
system.
You must have prepared your system for SAPinst [page 22].
The classes12.jar must exist in the <ORACLE_HOME>/jdbc/lib directory (installed using a
standard Oracle installation).
The backup must be done offline.
The source and target systems must run on different hosts for security reasons.
The source and target systems must be binary compatible.
Try to read guide.
Sergo and Eric,
it seems there are a lot of system copy guides, depending on various scenarios.
We don't know details of the original poster's environment though.
I am referring to the 'System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 ABAP+Java'
https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000416402008E.pdf
It says, in page 64:
You can use existing offline or online backups.
Or what am I missing here?
Hi Sergo,
This is a system refresh method for ORACLE database.
Ex: We can restore online/offlline backup of source system to target system. This is a normal scenario when we are going for a quality refresh.
And in my environment i am going to restore online backup, because i cant have much time to take offline backup and restore.
