Reset logon credentials problem

Former Member

Hi folks,

My ongoing saga with reinstalling BPC continues... I'm having problems trying to patch BPC 5.1.

Trying to run the SP7 patch and it gives me a error "Invalid Admin ID or Password".

When I go to the Server Manager, Reset Logon Credentials, the Admin ID and User ID are blank. The passwords are still there (for what they're worth) but if I try to put in my IDs again and click Update, the screen refreshes without error but the usernames are gone again!

I was able to install 5.1 with no problems, but can't get any further until this is resolved - any ideas?

Thanks very much,

Jason

Hi Jason,

another suggestion is that the server is part of one domain and the installation user is from other domain.

This can be another possible issue.

The installation user is not necessary to be Domain Administrator but the user has to be input into Local Administrator group and not be part of a goup which is added into Local Administrator group.

Any way it seems the problem is related to installation of COM+ components.

I suggest to do the follow:

Open- administrative tools - component services

Expand My computer and COM+ components.

For all components starting with Everest of Osoft you have to open properties and to input user and password into Identity section.

After that open Server Manager and let me know if you will see the user and password into reset credetiantial.

Please make sure the installation of SAP BPC was done into a local drive not into a share drive.

Kind Regards

Hi Sorin,

I never really got to the bottom of the problem, but I cleared everything off and reinstalled from scratch and it now seems ok.

Maybe something went wrong during the original install that I didn't see.

Anyway, thanks as always for your help.

All the best,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Saw your message on the other thread regarding the web page runtime error. Well if you're installing BPC in a Domain, it is very different than a "single environment" install. Few points you should be aware of

1. the UserName for the installation must have DomainAdmin rights and the localmachine right. The first reason is to allow you pulling usernames off the AD in security setting, second is a must or you won't be able to startup the services correctly.

2. loggin onto BPC webpage http://[bpcserver]/osoft/ , you need add the user in security settings. or else you'll just get an error page. if your computer is not IN the domain. you should have a username password dialog prompt. try input user: domainname\username , password: ********* it should open the webpage for you

3. most of the web access rights are defined in Task Profiles. make sure you have the correct rights assigned to your account

best regards,

Jim Hsu

I hope you server is not domain controler because in that case is not working.

Let's suppose is not domain controler.

Please let me know if you are using using local user for installation or domain user.

From error message it seems you are trying to install into a domain controler because otherwise it doesn't explain why the COM+ components are not registerred.

Another explanation is that the user used has some restrictions.

Hi Sorin,

It's definitely not a domain controller - I think the client has maybe configured the machine incorrectly in some way, but I can't figure out how.

I'm using a domain user for the install, which is in the Administrators group on the local machine.

I've seen no evidence of any restrictions - I haven't been stopped from doing anything so far.

Not sure that helps, sorry!

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

You performed the installation of SAP BPC 5.1 with USER1 (I mean you were logged into server using USER1).

After you performed the installation of 5.1 you open server manager.

DId you run a Check Diagnostic?

Do you have a single server installation or multiserver installation?

The installation user - USER1 is a domain user or a local user?

Did you add into administartor group this user USER1?

Reset credential can be done only for password not for users.

You said after opening server manager and reset credential the user was not there.

That's show me that actually your installation was not correct done.

The COM+ components will start with USER1 but it seems for some reason they don't have any identity.

Did you make sure that you have reginal settings English US into Windows?

I need more information to understand what has to be the next step.

Hi Sorin,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I have just uninstalled and reinstalled and I have gone back into Server Manager and the username fields are still empty.

This time when I try to update them, I get an error message:

"The COM+ update failed. Try reentering your information"

So it's almost as if the COM+ objects are read-only or something.

Very odd.

Regional Options are set to English (US).

Please let me know if you need any other info.

Best wishes,

Jason

UPDATE! It let me update the usernames by putting the local machine name in front:

servername\username

This appeared to work as it saved the usernames and are now stored, but when I try to install the patch, I can see that the installer thinks these are DOMAIN users, but they're not. Therefore I STILL can't apply the patches...
