How to filter data for composites in Lumira Designer?

While importing charts as Composites from Discovery into Designer, it allows me to change the aesthetics of charts as required. However, it does not provide an option to apply dimensional filters to the data within a composite.

Without this functionality, it will not be possible to filter data in an application as required. Is there a solution/workaround with which I will be able to filter dimensions available within the data-source used to build the composite?

PS- It is possible to add dimensional filters and script necessary actions for a chart in Designer. However, this feature is not available for a chart imported as a composite from Discovery

Please share version/SP of Lumira you are using - e.g. 2.0 SP3, or 2.1 SP1

Hey, I use a Lumira Designer 2.1. I tried using a workaround where I open Discovery documents in Designer and added dimensional filters as required. However, despite this change, cascading filters are not getting implemented as my scripts for 'On Apply' events do not return any value for selecting values in a dimensional filter. Is there a solution to implement cascading dimensional filters in Designer? The only solutions I can find online are using crosstabs.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kaushik,

This is one of the disadvantages of composites created as a result of imports from Discovery. In this scenario, the generated composite is essentially a "dumb wrapper" around the content. You need to enhance the composite to create a public API which can be accessed by scripts in the application.

Specifically, in the case of your filtering requirement, you will need to add a data source property to the composite and then bind this internally to the chart in the composite, which means removing the data source inside the composite, adding a significant rework overhead, which in my opinion limits the practical usability of composites generated from Discovery.

Hey Mustafa,

Thank you for your reply. I use a Lumira Designer 2.1 and could recognize the complications as you had mentioned with using composites in Designer. I tried using a workaround where I open Discovery documents in Designer and added dimensional filters as required. However, despite this change, cascading filters are not getting implemented as my scripts for 'On Apply' events do not return any value for selecting values in a dimensional filter. I am able to return only the dimension name and key of the filter in which a selection is made. If I can return the selection made in the dimensional filter, I might be able to customize the script further to implement cascading.

Is there a solution to implement cascading dimensional filters in Designer? The only solutions I can find online are using crosstabs. Would really appreciate your expertise..

Thanks in advance!

Hi Kaushak,

Two questions:

1) What type of data source are you using? BW BEx, HANA or a Universe?

2) What is the purpose of creating the chart in Discovery first and then importing it into Designer? Why don't you create the chart directly in the Designer application?

Mustafa.
