Hi All,
We are having a requirement in which we need to update the old inbound/outbound deliveries with the serial number. Is it possible?
If possible then how?
I mean to say that we want to mass assign serial numbers to the inbound and outbound deliveries.
thanks in advance..
Regards,
Sushanta
Sushanth,
It is not possible. The main reason for asigning serial numbers is for tracking purpose.( Based on the material, Equipment, Functional location). We assign it because if in case the material needs to be replaced or refurbished then this serial no will help us in that instance.
Serial numbers are master data that is used to identify material individually, in other words if a delivery involves 14 pices of material for delivery each material will have distinct number associated with it for tracking. This process is done well before PGI/PGR.
So there is no point in assigning serial nos to the bygone inbound and outbound deliveries it will create lots of other problems. Moreover the entire process would have been completed and money also recovered. There is no point in procceding further.
What you can do is you can set serial numbers for new inbound and outbound deliveries and maintain it accordingly.

It sounds like you have activated serialization after you have had some deliveries creatred and Posted in the system - Is that correct?
Typically, a material is identified as relevant for serial numbers using a serial number profile in the Master record. This serial number profile is automatically copied to a delivery lined item when you add that material to the delivery. This is how the Delivery knows whether or not you need to identify a serial number.
The old deliveries (created prior to activation of serial numbers) is missing this profile - therefore, it is not possible to add serial numbers. When you select extras > serial numbers, the screen does not appear for entering the serial numbers.

Hello,
Serial numbers are generated automatically once you make material relevant to serial numbers & serial profile is active.
You can reverse PGR or PGI for maintaining serials numbers but then I do not know what practical problem will arise.
Hope this input clear you.

Hi,
What;s the business logic behind this? You normally enter the serial numbers before GR / GI. As soon as PGI has been done, you cannot enter serial numbers anymore. I would even say that as soon as the material is serial number relevant, your serial number profile will not allow you to PGR/ PGI without having entered a serial number.
