Item Master Data

I have created a item, and marked an item as "sales" and "inventory". I have already done some transactions with this item, now i want to mark it as "purchase" too on Item Master Tab.

This item was created using a production BOM, there is no stock in hand for this item, is there any way to mark the "purchase: button so that i could conduct purchase transactions with these items.
