Minimum remaining shelf life value -- per plant

Dear All

Normally if batch is activated and Min rem shelf life has value, when you do a GR you will be prompted to enter expiry of the matl in addition to batch (under the batches tab).

Now we have a situation where a material is shared by several plants. In 1 plant they want to enter expiry date however the min rem shelf life for that matl is set to 0 which makes the system not prompt to ask for expiry date when doing GR.

how can I activate this feature (to make system prompt for expiry date) only for this plant.?

The minimum remaining shelf life value is in the Plant data / Stor 1. tab, however it is a MARA field. So if I just change this field it will affect all other plants as well which is not desired.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Anant

Hi,

Min remaining shelf life comes into picture when you do the GR for the goods.Sytem finds the remaining shelf life by subtracting the GR date from the expirartion date.If this falls behind the stipulated maintained at Material master , system throws the error.

As you rightly said these are the not plant specifc .as this is MARA entry.

But however you can try at SPROmmIM-GR-SET Expiration date check for the plant or momment type .

By doing this system will skip the check for the specified plans or moment types .

Hope this functionality will help you.

Dear All

just in case anyone has some problem remotely close to this perhaps this can help.

You can use inbound deliveries -- which will create batch master records.

Or you can create batch masters and then do MIGO.

In that case although min rem shelf life = 0. you still have the option to enter expiry date through the above mentioned methods.

Cheers

If you really have different shelf lifes for the same material in different plant, then you have to create one material master per plant, and cannot used the concept of having one material master for all plants.

Are you certain that a yoghurt in Germany has a shorter shelf life than in France?

Hi Jurgen / Anand.

I think you misunderstood me.. my issue is not product having different shelf life.. Agreed it could have the same shelf life. but one plant decides not to enter expiry date during GR hence Min rem shelf life = 0. But this plant want to use expiry date feature. So I need to activate this is one without affecting the other plant.. to get a better understanding please see scenario.

There is a global corporation with manufacturing in Germany and reseller in US, Russia and Australia.

Now when we order materials from Germany it is 1 material number for all plants for 1 material.

Now US and russia used to sell this material already... but they maintain min rem shelf life 0 .. so I assume they dont use the expiry date feature in GR , may be they dont need it or they have another program to update it later or they have auto assignment of expiry date.. im not sure about that. But now Australia plant wants to start selling this material so we extend this material to our plant and order from Germany, but due to min shelf life =0 it doesnt pormpt us for expiry date in GR but in Australia they want to keep track of each material's expiry, hence the dilemma. If I change this field although its in Plant data but its a MARA field. So if I change it will solve my problem but users in US and Russia will now have to enter expiry date as well which might disrupt their current process or cause them inconvenience. So I want to make Australia happy without disturbing US and Russia.

I hope that explains my situation better... based on this do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello anant,

I am not sure if you mean min. remaining shelf life (SL) or Total SL. The expiry date calculation is based on the total shelf life. If you have not maintained any Total SL and de-activated expiration date check, system will not prompt for expiration date check.

If your Batch is global (set at material or client level) the Minimum or Total SL is also global and cannot be maintained at plant level.

You can do the following -

In SPRO - Logistics General - Batch Management, set the "SL Expiration check" for plants, where you want to calculate the SLED. In the material master, maintain the total shelf life. If you so not have a fix total shelf life or want to maintain a different expiry date, than calculated by system, use enhancement EXIT_SAPLMHD1_001 or BADI VB_SLED_MANAGEMENT.

Hope this helps. Let me know, if you need more help.

Hi ananth,

How you have arrived, you required SLED for only one plant in your organisation structure ????

still if you want this, as you said you have to extend the materila for only the plant required for SLED to Plant data / stor 1.

and also in SPRO you have to activate for the Plant for which you required...in OMJ5 transaction.
