What are the ideal cases/scenarios to choose NDSO in SAP HANA DATAWAREHOUSE FOUNDATION?

Hello there,

Right now I am exploring NDSO in SAP HANA DWF. Other than Delta loading/Change Capture mechanism, I wanted know about NDSO.

1. Like columnar tables, whether NDSO(Change log tables/Active Tables) will have 2 billion row limitations?

2. On which scenario , NDSO can be considered rather than Calculation Views?

Thanks,

Madhavan M.

1. I am not really sure about the column store table limitation in the latest release 2.0 SP 03, however, the limitation of 2 billion records used to be for each partition in a table. So you can do the Partitioning on NDSO object to avoid any such limitations.

2. Calculation views are information views, CV model is executed every time the query is run, it is difficult to keep all the transformation logic in the CV from the feasibility and also from performance prospective.

So for this reason, we may have to do ETL process to transform the data using SDI transformations and then persist the data in a table physically, in this case it is NDSO., therefore, accessing the data in NDSO is much faster, because the data load with complex transformation was already done through flowgraph ETL.
