Dear Experts,
Heres the situation ;
We just finished upgrading (TECHNICAL)from BW3.5 to BI 7.0.
The upgrade was a Non-Unicode type, although the vanilla system (BW 3.5) was unicode enabled.
Now, Before we implement BIA , is it necessary to go in for a FUNCTIONAL UPGRADE too??? If at all we do it, will it ,in anyway boost the performance of the system??
If we do not do it (i.e, a FUNCTIONAL UPGRADE before BIA), is there anything that we are loosing??
Additional Info : WE DONOT HAVE A SAP PORTAL.
Please advise..!!
Thank you,
Regards,
Sai.
SAI,
Once you finish your technical upgrade - you are good to go with BIA...
You do not need a JAVA Stack for the same and BIA communicates with the BI system through an RFC...
You would have to do a sizing before you start the BIA implementation ...

Hi Sai,
There are no requirements for BWA for any of the things you listed, other then BW being on 7.0 release with the latest SPS.
Regarding sizing (number of blades and RAM size), start with SAP Note Number: 1010267 "BIA 7.00: Sizing procedure", but in general your BWA hardware vendor should help you with doing proper sizing.
Hope this helps,

Hey Sai
Just one more thing, be sure that the version you are using for the TREX admin are updated and compatible with your current SP. I had a problem at once which the SP version was not tested by SAP and after a few days we lost one of the servers. *I don´t need to tell you what happened, If you know what I mean.
Ask to your Basis to validate in SAP before you proceed with the lastest version of the SP. Some times you will need to upgrade your front-end too, in order to avoid some problems on the queries throught BEX.
Regards.
