DataServices or Metadata Management and SAP BI -Lineage and Impact Analysis

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to find a way to integrate the lineage and impact analysis component found in DI and MM with my existing SAP BI backend. We have several universes and dozens of WebI reports already created, but we would like to be able to see the lineage of a particular field back to its BI table (or ECC table if possible).

How do I set something like this up?

Hi,

If your target tables are getting populated through BODI from SAP R/3, then it should show up in impact lineage analysis.

Can you elaborate the case with example.

The current architecture is:

PeopleSoft -> SAP ECC -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI

We are trying to perform mappings from field names on reports in WebI back to their SAP BI technical name / description, and even into ECC if possible. I was able to run Metadata Integrator in DS to collect lineage information from the BOE server, but this doesn't give me anything further back than BOE. I assumed that I would need to add the remaining steps manually, yet it sounds like you have a better idea.

How can we go about doing this? Are you saying that if I use:

SAP ECC -> DS -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI

Then it will show my lineage from WebI all the way to ECC automatically? Do you have any examples of this? If that is the case, then I would like to test it out.

what is the metadata information from SAP BI that is used to created BOE universe, is it the SAP BI objects or its directly on the ECC tables ?

there are some new Integrator and improvement happening in MM XI 3.1, with SAP BW 7.1 version to show the lineage from BOE to SAP BW, but I don't think it will dispay till ECC level since its hard to get the info from BW object back to ECC

the lineage will depend on how these different systems can be linked

I am not familiar with SAP BW, do you directly access ECC table in BW or its done through SAP BW objects ? how do you create your BOE universe for SAP BW ? what is source for BOE reports ?
