IBP Calculate the YTD/YTG with a month that starts from May to April

Hi,

I have a client requirement of YTD and YTG wherein the YTD is based on the actuals and YTG is based on the forecast. I followed the instructions on this blog https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3804446 and it is very helpful. I was able to create a YTD but it always starts in the month of Jan. until Dec. The client requirement is to always start the year with May and end it with April (i.e. May 2018 until April 2019) for the YTD and YTG. Can you suggest how to do the PERIODID calculation for this?

Thank you.

Hi Jerson

Fortunately I did not have that requirement yet, just some ideas how you could approach it and test out yourself.

- I assume you are working in monthly buckets?

- Do you have fiscal years set up in the time profile, so you could have an own planning level on fiscal years instead of full years (especially if all your calculations are always in fiscal rather than in normal years)?

- Obviously the trick with working by aggregating to yearly buckets and back in order to have the full year covered would not work so easy without fiscal year. But you could work for example with another key figure in which you sum up the yearly value of your fiscal year.

If you had an integer-attribute to your time profile attached to the month, that could tell you which month you are in, such as 1 for January, 2 for Feb, ... and 12 for December. With that you could check the month you are in easily and sum up the values into another key figure for the current year. Condition would be a kind of combination to check on the month-attribute in which month you are currently and PERIODID3 < / > $$PERIOD3CU$$ + ... (assuming months would be level 3) in order to sum up the fiscal yearly values

Good luck

Irmi

P.S.: Or you could may be able to work with some kind of check on modula calculation as in this very very very old block when the time profile attributes had not been available yet: https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3632032 ...

Hi Jerson,

I suggest you using the Fiscal year in the time profile. Then you could use the corresponding PERIODIDn in the key figure's calculation.

Hi Jerson,

There is an alternate approach to this requirement which can be achieved by using Excel Add-In functionality. What you want is make a use of the Rolling option in Time settings. What you have to do is, select "From Roll" in rolling, select "May" in From period and "April" in To period. Doing so you will get Forecast KF YTD.

If you want to show Actuals and Forecast number in one KF, you can write IFNULL logic as Actuals will be blank in future and populate it with Forecast numbers. and make a use of "To Roll" for YTG and "From Roll" for YTD.

Thank you Sai, Irmi, & Gabby for your input!

I added a new level in the Time Profile tile and need to update it also in the IBP Configuration tile, Planning Area & Details > Planning Horizons because the planning area doesn't automatically pick-up the "From" and "To" of the new time level.

The YTD and YTG is working as well following this blog: https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3804446

However, for the YTG is there a way to show to total at the end of the fiscal year month? My fiscal year is May-April (see attached current setup). capture.png

Hello Durens,

Standard time profile will start in Jan and ends in Dec.

In your case, when you say your client wants to start in May and end in April, do they follow May to April financial year ? if yes, then kindly build time profile accordingly. This should solve 80% of your problem. Remaining 20% is following the configuration in the mentioned link.
