ALTERNATIVE BOM SELECTION IN MRP RUN

Dear PP Experts,

I have a BOM of semifinish Material "A" which includes

semifinish material "B" with quantity 1

raw material "C" with quantity 1.

semifinish material "B" with quantity 1

As "B" is having 2 alternative bom.

In alternative 1:- materials are- "D" qty 1

"E" qty 2

In alternative 2:- materials are- "D" qty 1

"F" qty 2

While MRP run on "A" system capturing only alternative 1 of "B" in MRP. My client wants system should capture both the alternatives.

Pl. help me regarding this issue.

Hi,

As Vivek told, If you need both of them together then there is no need of alternate BOM.You need to maintain components E & F in single BOM only of B.

Further if it is required to have both BOM components together in certain conditions only then you can go for Variant BOM by maintaining OD for components and hence you can use single BOM only.

However pls clarify your requirement in more details to fulfill your requirement.

Can you let us know why you want both of them to be selected?

If it is the need, then why create an alternative?

Dear Vivek,

I understood ur answer which is logicaly correct. Thanks for that.

But my next query is, if i m maintaining the alternative BOM for mat "A" .

1st Alternative contains materials : B & C

2nd alternative contains materials : D & E

Now I run the MRP for "A". Then which alternative system will take?

Hi,

You can make alternate BOM selection by following procedure :

For BOM Alternative Selection you need to maintain any of the following settings in Material Master --->

MRP-4 View->BOM Explosion / Dependent Requirements->Selection Method :

Method for Selecting Alternative Bills of Material

Indicator determining the selection of the alternative BOM when requirements are exploded in material requirements planning.

Use

With Selection by order quantity, the system chooses the alternative BOM into whose lot size range the order quantity falls. The lot size range and area of validity of the BOM apply.

With Selection by explosion date, the system chooses the alternative BOM into whose area of validity the date falls according to the setting BOM via dates.

With Selection by production version, the system chooses the alternative BOM defined in the valid production version. The lot size range and area of validity of the production version apply.

With Selection only by production version, the system chooses the alternative BOM defined in the valid production version. The lot size range and area of validity of the production version apply.

If no production version is found, no production orders or process orders can be created.
