Restoring a report from a backed up BIAR file

Hello,

We are trying to restore a report from a BIAR file that we backup on a nightly basis. Can someone please provide some instructions on how to accomplish this?

Go to promotion management, Select the Import from file, pick the biar file you want. But you cannot select individual report to restore unless you are in 4.2 SP2 and above

I tried to import the .BIAR file as well as Override and receiving the same error. At this point I don't care about restoring an individual object, I just want to restore from the nightly backup .BIAR file. I took a look at the Admin Guide under Promotion Management and it sounds like I should be able to accomplish this yet its not working. I also tried using the Upgrade Management tool and attempted an incremental upgrade from BIAR to Live and that gave me an error as well about not having some .XML (sorry for not providing a screenshot on that one but figured that isn't the process I should be taking to restoring this BIAR file).

How do you backup to biar file? Are you using LCM.CLI command line option to backup or Schedule using Promotion Management.

Can you manually backup using Promotion management and try to restore the objects?

based on what is provided - you're backup method is not creating valid LCMBIAR files for Promotion management to work with.
So the question remains - how are you creating the "biar" files exactly ?

I am taking over for a previous administrator who did not document this process very well, sorry for the delayed response. I have 3 jobs in Promotion Management that don't have a last run time so I don't think that is even involved in the process of backing up the .BIAR file. It looks like that he was doing this straight from a Windows Scheduled Job running a .bat script which reads (the rest of the .bat file just moves the file to a new location with a time stamp and deletes the older .BIAR file:

REM *********************************BIAR FILE BACKUP************************************************
"D:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\jre\bin\java" -jar "D:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\java\lib\BiarEngine.jar" D:\BIARSCRIPTS\biarexport.properties

Based off your responses and what I am seeing, we aren't doing the backup properly. So I need to learn how to create the LCMBIAR backup and use the best practice here then try and restore. New to QQM clearly so this is all a learning experience.

cannot use biarengine.jar for this purpose anymore. this is where your issue is originating.
See Admin guide and Promotion Pattern book on how to use LCM CLI for your purpose :

You should not use BIAR as backup option as you can't import BIAR files into BO Platform if they are created on the same version of the product, only BIAR files from lower versions are importable.

LCMBIAR files can be used to facilitate this.

p.s.
have you looked at Promotion management section of Admin guide ?
