Is there a way in Sales Orders to make the system alert the user when they are about to go over the BP credit limit?

It is presented by deault out of the box .
Go to Administration >General setting > BP
Activate credit limit in there .

The requirement is ABOUT to go over the limit. That means the credit limit is still ok by system checking.
You may create an alert query to build a user alert.
