Hi Sushil,
To Add to my pointers ......
Besides trying out the basic required test as mentioned in the post. You can go for scenario testing.
For eg:
- Perform an MDM>ECC integartion with MDM 7.1.You will then be able to understand and Use the new features in MDM 7.1 for improved integration like for eg you will using the PI adapters instead of the FTP mechanism.
- Try creating your own MDM webservive and call it using the Webservice generator.
- Perform an MDM ABAP integration using teh new ABAP api
- Simillarly you can work with other systems like BI.
The point is MDM was and is capable to integrate with several system but the differnce here is that the integrations are made easier and advanced.
So some of the test scenarios will be as above and on implementing them can you will actually test and understand the true difference.
Hope It Helped
Thanks & Regards

Hi Sushil,
I think an initial test could be on comparing in terms of operations and functions between the SAP5.5 and the SAP7.1 system.
Before doing any scenario testing it will be a good practice to perform the opeartion testing in 7.1 as against the 5.5 version like:
- Connecting to the repository and checking the security improvements.
- The functioning of the transport mechanism in the new mdm version.
- The understanding of all the new features and options in the MDM clients.
- The easy navigation in the new Gui
etc....
You can then later on move to teh integration testing where you can test the functioning of:
- The ABAP api
- The Webservices enhancements
- The Business objects
- The Adpters etc
in the various scneraios
Hope It Helped
Thanks & Regards

Hi Susil,
If you are talking about checking whether the upgrades where up to the mark or not, perform some simple tasks like connecting to a repository, adding fields, tables etc.
Also you can check the mds, mdis and mdss files.
Can work on some simple scenario which involves configuration in these files which may clear your doubts on the exact version upgrade of these files.
Hope it helps.
Thanks,
Minaz
