Unkown video card error

My client is getting the following error infrequently and randomly when running various business objects deski or other processes. Apparently this error has occurred in other versions of business objects. Error:

    Windows 2000 Terminal Server.

I'm assuming this isn't strictly a SDK issue, so will transfer your post to the Desktop Intelligence forums.

    Sincerely,

    Ted Ueda

    Hi Louise,

What is the Exact version of BusinessObjects on client and on server ?

BO recommends the user to use same version of BO on client and server.

    Regrads,

    Deepti Bajpai

Thanks very much for your response. Can I understand some things:

Try to save any file which is having size greater than the size of universe (i.e.<2.5MB)on H: drive.

Which type of file do I save? Note that my clients are getting this error, but I am not, and they do not have access to Designer or to building universes.

Check the rights and space allowed to the users on the citrix server.

Sorry, which rights and what space? How do I do this?

Check that everyone group does not have 'No Access' right associated with them, and have the proper rights in the CMC.

Which rights should I check here pls?

May I know the version and patch level of busines objects you are using?

      Version is XIr2.

      Thanks again.

    • Hi Louise,

The error isn't really about the video card, its the access violation,

the video card is simply Deski gathering environmental info at the time of this access violation,

It is the same one that Madhu is reporting.

      Since you are probably watching this thread, I'll copy my reply to him here;

      Hi,

This is a very general error. It has to do with windows memory handling.

More important then the actual error is what caused it,

I've seen this in a number of situations:

      - very complex reports (a lot of variables/formulas, many dataproviders)

      - very big reports (a lot of data rows retrieved in the dataprovider(s))

      - corrupted reports (they might not open up at all).

So what you can do depends on the situation.

      - empty the dataproviders.

      - reduce complexity (get rid of unused formulas/variables, especially with older reports, they tend to stay even if they are not needed anymore).

      - set the view to structure before you make changes (if you save in this view, make a copy, since it is possible that the report won't allow you to put it back in normal view).

If you still cannot get the report to save, try saving it as a template.

Start with a new report, re-do the dataproviders and apply the template.

Since in your case it is other users that get this error, if they get it while building their own reports,

it may be needed to educate them on this.

If they have the error running predefined reports, check those for the points mentioned and redistribute.

      Hope this helps

Thanks for your response, Marianne. As this is happening infrequently and on a variety of different tasks/reports, I'm not sure about what you say. The error says:

    ' U n k n o w n ' v i d e o c a r d

    4 8 0 0 x 1 2 0 0 w i t h 6 5 5 3 6 c o l o r s

My client is running three screens at 1600x1200 resolution. We think that the issue may be related to using multiple monitors. Do you find this error occurs in such situations?
