Solution to Export a Chart in BI 3.5

We are using 3.5 and have created a set of web templates that are displayed in the portal. Our users want a way to save the displayed chart as a static file (.jpg, .pdf, .gif, .img, etc) for including in powerpoint presentations to management. We are able to export the tables themselves to excel just fine, but it never succeeds in bringing the chart also.

I have seen a number of old posts asking for solutions to this but nothing recently. Does anyone have any solutions for this? Thanks.

    Joseph,

in BW 3.5, if you set the chart's web item parameters within the web template as 'without navigation' then you should be able to copy the image from the web page via the standard Internet Explorer context menu (shown by right-mouse clicking in the body of the chart). Or select the chart first by 'wiping' it with the mouse.

If the 'with navigation' option is taken, then right-mouse clicking shows the BW 3.5 context menu, not IE's, and then copying to the clipboard is not available.

    Cheers,

    David

    Hi Joseph,

this is not possible with javascript or inside the client. But you can create your ABAP Helpservice which will collect the BI content including charts. Then you will be able to transform the content into any other format.

We did that by developing an external Program which will called from abap and generates the Powerpoints, pdf or word files.

For excel you can loop through the items in the page and call Item->GET_MIME method. this method returns the bytes of chart.

Then you can try if you can embed the images into the Office XML which you generate in your helpservice (HOW TO Print with Excel of Tobias Kaufmann from SAP).

You can Download the Office xml specification here [http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=fe118952-3547-420a-a412-00a2662442d9&displayLang=en]

    best regards,

    Kai
