MRP "Linked" planning - parts from same tool

We're currently using SAP R/3 4.6c, and I'd like to set up linked planning, so products made by the same tool appear in the production planning pool together. I've spent ages on the SAP help site, and searching on this site, and have drawn a blank, so I'll try a post for all you guru's out there!

Here's the issue:

A product made by 1 production tool is made/stocked/sold in 3 different colours, all forecast etc.

ie, White, Brown & Green.

The White is the fastest selling product, brown is next, green sales are low.....

They're all made from the same productino line, which is used (cycled) every 8 weeks or so, and the set up time is about 5 hours from scratch, but a colour change is only 15 minutes. The sales of brown and green don't justify setting the production line, as their volumes are pretty low.

Currently MRP treats each of the 3 products independently, and creates recommended planned orders for each product based on it's settings, customer orders, forecast, stocks etc..

Manually, when we're planning to run the white product we try to look ahead for any brown or green recommended orders up to 10-12 weeks ahead.

But then we find that we haven't ordered the coloured compounds required for the browns and greens...

How can we get SAP MRP/planning to plan browns and greens in with batches of white up to a certain period forward please?

ie, to split the products into the planning driving products (ie white), and the driven products (ie brown & green) or whatever SAP terminology is used. I thought collective planning may have it, but only for project based planning.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Mark.
