Error: Server not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null

I installed Crystal Reports Server 2008. The server is a new install of windows 2003 server fully service packed... The ony connection to SQL is through an ODBC connection to a seperate MSSQL Server. I did not set a password for the CMC and checked the "change administrator password later". When I try to log in to the CMC I get

Error: Server srvreports:6400 not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null

I am connecting through an ODBC using a trusted connection... Should I not do it this way?

I have tried uninstalling several times... including specifying a password.

Thank you in advance for the assistance

Yes, looks like your CMS server is not running.

Chack task manager - is there cms.exe there ?

If you go to CCM, do you see SIA you created, is it running ?

Thank your for the responses. Under CCM I have:

Apache TomCat 5.5.20 Running

Server Intelligence Agent (SRVREPORTS) Running

In task manager sia.exe is running but I do not see cms.exe, is there a particular place I have to go to get it started?

Thanks in advance.

Check if any errors in EventViewer. If the SIA is running, but not the CMS this usually means there is a problem with the connection to the CMS database.

Like Carolina said - you most likely have a problem with connection to CMS DB and that's why your CMS server is not starting.

Stop SIA and then check it's properties for CMS DB connection, see if any errors come there.

Look in your /logging directory to see if there are any logs .

ok so here are some of the errors i have been getting in the event viewer.

After restarting the SIA I get:

[Node Name: SRVREPORTS]

[User Name: SYSTEM]

Server Intelligence Agent: CMS SRVREPORTS.CentralManagementServer has failed and the Server Intelligence Agent has not been able to connect to the cluster. Please verify your CMS port and database settings are correct.

[Node Name: SRVREPORTS]

[User Name: SYSTEM]

Server Intelligence Agent: server SRVREPORTS.CentralManagementServer is considered failed because it has stopped 5 time(s) within 60 minute(s). Please restart this server.

These messages come up under Source, BUSINESS OBJECTS_cms:

The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: BusinessObjects Enterprise CMS: Unable to connect to the CMS system database "CrystalReports". Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'HQ\SRV-REPORTS$'.).

I do not have any users created for HQ\SRV-REPORTS$ and am not sure how this comes up...

Thanks again.

Looks like your DSN for CMS DB connection is not set properly, or when you have set CMS DB connection during XI setup you provided wrong info.

Reconfigure DSN for a normal connection, with username/password and retest.

I changed my ODBC Connection from trusted to entering a specified username and password and making the same change in the MSSQL server... and that fixed the issue.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi,

I have the problem. I checked the event log and it is saying CMS failed for some XX user that I am not aware of. During installation I unchecked the trusted connection and entered my crystal service account that has admin rights to the CMS database. My CMS datasource is ODBC connection with system DSN using my windows authentication. SIA is up and running too. I really dont know what is going on. Please help!

Hi baralp79 ,

Your CMS database stored in which Database server?

If it is in SQL SERVER then You must start that SQL SERVER

START MENU>SQL SERVER XXXX VERSION>Configuration tools--> SQL SERVER Configuration Manager.

Thanks

Hi, I had the same problem and resolved with SAP Note 1711203 !

From CCM -> SIA properties -> Configuration tab i had this error:

Failed to retrieve the cluster name from the database. Reason: Parser failed to

initialize.

Hi Abhishek,

The Central Management Server (CMS) is responsible for maintaining a database of information about your BusinessObjects Enterprise system, which other components can access. The data stored by the CMS includes information about users and  groups, security levels, BusinessObjects Enterprise content, and servers

  • - Maintaining Security , Managing Objects, Managing Servers, Managing Auditing.

SIA is the Server Intelligence Agent. Server Intelligence is the underlying server management architecture that simplifies the administration and deployment of BusinessObjects Enterprise servers and services. When you start a SIA you can configure all, some, or none of the servers contained in/managed by the SIA to also be started. All BO servers in a SIA must belong to the same cluster. The SIA maintains server status according to the settings you specify in the CMC. It processes the CMC's requests to start, stop, monitor, and manage all servers on the node, and it also monitors potential problems and automatically restarts servers that have shut down unexpectedly. The SIA ensures optimal performance by continually monitoring server status information, which is stored in the CMS database. When you change a server's settings or add a new server in the CMC, the CMS notifies the SIA, and the SIA performs the task.

The SIA is automatically configured during installation, but you can change these default settings through the CCM.

Hi All,

Always register ODBC drivers, system SDN using Administrative tools of windows 2008.

Otherwise CMS or Audit database will not be accessible for configuration.

When you first logon to the CMC you don't need a database connection yet (apart from the CMS connection you have set up when you installed), but you need to make sure your CMS is up an running.

You can check this in the Central Configuration Manager.
