Material xxxxx in plant xxxx is configurable and will not be costed

Hello,

I am getting a message "Material xxxxx in plant xxxx is configurable and will not be costed" when trying to cost estimate a configurable material.

I am not sure how a Configurable material can be costed.

I would like to know in general how a Configurable Material gets costed.

Note: we donot have any Material variants for this Configurable Material and actually this material is of Type HALB but with Configurable check box checked in BasicData-2 view.

Thanks for the help.

Regards,

BRN

    Hi BRN,

In Costing Run CK40N, When you click on the "parameters" for material selection (selection of materials for which you want to run the Standard Cost Estimate),

in that screen, on the bottom-left corner, there is one check box "Select Configured Matl Only". You have to select this check box to run the Cost Estimate. If you don't select, the system will not cost Configurable Material..

    Pls try this and reply.....

    Dear BRN,

Check this as per the procedure obtained during the error,

    Procedure

    You have the following options:

u2022 Create a material master record for a material variant and use a material type that allows

costing. In the material master record, link this material variant to the configurable material and valuate

    the characteristics.

You can create and save a cost estimate for this material.

u2022 You simulate costing in the configuration simulation. Choose Logistics -> Central functions -

    > Variant configuration -> Environment -> Configuration simulation. In the screen for characteristic

    valuation, choose Environment -> Costing.

You cannot save the cost estimate for this material.

      Hello Srikanth and Mangalraj,

Thank you for the great Inputs.

We didnot try CK40N as we didnot want to pull all the materials for cost estimate.,

We tried Magalraj's approach where we assigned Material Variant to the Configurable Material (in this case we assigned the same Material # in MRP3 view)......which then cost estimate was then happening however we didnot proceed further as it required assiging characterstic values.

In our case characterstic values are dynamic and we cannot afford to have Material Variant for every combination of charac values.....

but i say the Material Cost Estimate did run further without giving any erros when we did this way.

However it broke the configuration selection process.....i.e we have Multilevel Configuration Selection and because we assigned the 2nd level of Configurable Material itself as the Variant for cost estimate purposes, BOM Explosion for the 2nd level is not happening anymore......so we are trying to figure out what to do.

Do you guys know is there any way to Un-Assign a Material Variant to Configurable Material in MRP-3 View. If so that would be of great help.

      Best Regards,BRN.

    Hi gurus,

i read this topic and if i well understand the main topic is related to the simulation of cost of an article configurable.

I did the CK40n and i get some costs a a result. But on my side, the article configurable is coming from a sales order (SD document) which contain a WBS (project).

May aim is then to obtain the cost of production of the article configurable in my project (WBS).

But i have no cost in all the report I use concerning my WBS element (exemple with the S_ALR_87013542).

And my client absolutely want to get the cost in the project after the production of the article.

    Did i missed something ?

    Thank you all.

I do mean "in our particular case." It was standard practice in 3.x versions I believe.

To change, is an entire business process change -- not done lightly.

I wasn't with this company when they put "non-valuated" in place, so I don't know why or how it was configured. I am just aware that I get that message any time I try to cost. That message also occurs when a material master is created with the "config material" check mark accidentally set.

We do have full variant config in place.

One way we deal with costing, is to create a HALB/FERT for costing and then create a COSTING BOM (BOM usage 6) this gives us a way to cost and save the cost estimate.
