IBM BLU to HANA conversion

Hi all,

I'm currently involved in a BW7.31 on DB2 to BW7.5 on HANA migration project.

The existing BW system is using the column store for InfoCubes and DSO (tables have been converted with DB6CONV). No flat InfoCubes are used as this feature is not available in BW7.31

Now we are wondering if a conversion to HANA can deal with the column store of if we have to convert back all objects to the row store before we can start the migration?

It would be helpful to get more Information on that topic as all blogs and notes (especially 1513862) are dealing only with the other direction: convertion of objects to the BLU column store.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Hi Frank,

thank you for the quick reply - sounds good! I was just wondering if there is any difference in the table layout (which is the case for at least flat InfoCubes), request handling, metadata, etc. which could prevent the migration... If every object uses the same tables/content, then for sure the ROW/COLUMN orientation doesn't matter.

Regarding DMO: We used report ZBW_UPGRADE_PATHS and this one is telling us that DMO is possible, but you mentioned that DMO is currently not supported? Current system is BW7.31 SP19 on DB6 (Unicode), target system is BW7.5 on HDB (Unicode).

And no, nothing special: Just a standard BW upgrade with DB migration, that means take care of all the standard stuff, e.g. BEx 3.x no longer supported, changes due to RSCHAVL, take care of ABAP on HANA, etc.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

this does not cause any additional problem. If you are planning to do a normal BW migration with a downtime for export/import, this is done via a standard heterogenous system copy using R3load export/import. R3load export executes only SQL SELECT statements and does not even know if the underlying tables are ROW or COLUMN oriented.

Are you planning to do anything special ? DMO is currently not supported. BLU currently does not support triggers. So change recording on BLU tables via triggers is not possible.

Frank
