Animesh,
Your Assumption is correct.
The combination of ORACLE 10.2 on windows 2008 server has been planned(in Q1) but not yet supported. For details please check the Product Availability Matrix(PAM).

Hi Markus,
actualy we tried to change Oraparam.ini file in the installation folder...
edited ... windows= 5.0, 5.1, 6.0
we had entered 6.0
and started ... but after starting we are getting ERROR like unKNOWN and installation popup (OUI popup) exiting with .. error popup.
anyother solution like.. this.
if you suggest us to use 2003 64 bit for temporaray .... purpose.
and is there any specified procedure to UPgrade OS.
like... DB should be updated before OS upgradation.
or DO we have to use SAP system COPY procedure to migrate to NEW OS.
thanking you in all,

Yes - that is necessary.

Yes - because Oracle delivers its own Java version - which is too old to run on Windows 2008.

You can run 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 x64 nicely and upgrade to Windows 2008. Since there is no "upgrade" (it is the highest version supported) there´s no need to do anything.
The question you have to ask is:
Why do you need Windows 2008? Is there any technical implication?
Markus
Hi Markus,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
i'm handeling one implementation project and Client had purchased Windows 2008 Server.
They want to install SAP ERP R3 with Oracle 10g on Windows 2008.
in this exercise.... we are facing problem, as there are some incompatable issues.(between OS and DB).
as per your suggestion we will Kick start installation with windows 2003 x64 bit and install oracle 10g.
later ... update DB to latest level
then we will put 2008 server OS and upgrade OS.
please let me in case of any corrections.

Depending on which license you bought you may have a downgrade license for Windows 2003 x64 - even if you bought 2008. Check with your customers license agreement.
I would not update to Windows 2008 until SAP supports it officially for Oracle, you may run into trouble if you have a problem.
Markus
Hi
> you may run into trouble if you have a problem.
very politically correct
@Animesh
Currently, if you run into any problem, primary support will close the message pointing you to the PAM and indicating that you are running in a non supported combination
I do not understand how it is possible to "handle an implementation proyect in a non supported platform"
Nevertheless, and indicating again that you will be in big problems if you try to ask SAP for help about a non supported platform, Oracle certifies Windows 2008 (AMD64/EM64T) only for 10.2.0.4 (10.2.0.4 installer must be used, not the 10.2.0.1 installer)
> (10.2.0.4 installer must be used, not the 10.2.0.1 installer)
...just to add: I tried this on the weekend. I "modified" the default 10.2.0.4 installation from Oracle to be used with the sapserver.cmd script for installations on Windows 2008. It's not really straightforward. Finally I was able to install the database and apply the latest interim patches and used R3load to put a system on it. I did that just for personal interest - we won't run anything on that combination.
So technically it works -but as of now there's still no official support. Q1 is over now - so support should be there really soon.
Markus
Since 24/04/2009 Oracle 10.2 is supported on Windows 2008.
Where Can I download Oracle 10.2.0.4 from SWDC?
In Note 1303262 - Windows Server 2008 and Oracle it says :
2. You have to install the Oracle Version 10.2.0.4.0.
Note that you cannot install the Oracle version 10.2.0.2.0 and then install patchset 10.2.0.4.0.
How can I download it?
Thanks in advanced.

It is not supported for oracle as DB, if it is MS SQL than its ok, Please check http://service.sap.com/pam for updated available matrix.
