Hi
I want to setup my Dev , QA and Prod servers on a single HANA box with Multi- tenancy.
What would be the impact on QA refresh cycles and is there a different way to do that with Multi-tenancy.
Thanks
Hello Ian,
Multi-tenancy is a great feature and is going to become standard and the only operation mode with SAP HANA 2.0 SPS01. Technically it is possible to setup Production, Quality and Development on a single HANA Box using Multi Tenancy. Each tenant database in an MDC system is self-contained and fully isolated. Each tenant has its own Database Catalog, Persistence, Backups etc which means a tenant db can be backed up and recovered independently from any other tenant. It is also possible to restore one tenant over another.
However in a Multi Container system, one should carefully consider the following if it includes production and non-production systems :-
- All the databases share the same installation of database OS, HANA DB software, and same computing resources. Any changes to the Binaries will impact all the environments if they are installed on the same Box using Multitenancy.
- In the the event of a DR (Disaster Recovery) scenario for the HANA Appliance or Box, all the instances, including production, will be impacted,
- In the event of a System Maintenance, all the instances including production will be impacted/down.
- 3rd Party Backup tools or Storage snapshot support for Tenant Database
