Hello Ganesh,

Regarding maintainance certificate : yes you need to install maintainance certificate for all the system which are ECC6.0 and above for any maintanance activity. You can request for a maintainance certificate from service market place.

M Certificate is valid for 3 months only.

As per the above note you may need to download BOTH Database dependent and independent for complete Kernel upgrade....

About Maintenance certificate Please check Note [1240265|https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1240265]

As per this note download your Maintenance Certificate and install using SAPLICENSE ... - procedure explained in the note.

Note : You should have the Kernel level specified in this note.

Once you are done with Maintenance certificate download & install updated version of SPAM before installing any patches.

Then you can go ahead to install patches from service market place using SPAM.

Let us know if anything....

Hello Everybody

I understand that, for Kernel update, i need BOTH DB dependent and DB independent patch, but I have problem that both Patch are extracted in one folder, if I extract in one folder then some files are overwrite OR how to extract and copy to RUN directory. I know to use SAPCAR.exe but i want to know the procedure.

Also for Maintainance Certificate, when I go to SAP Portal, then the Request Lic. key option is not display, I see only Permanent License Key then can i continue with selection of the button.

plz guide me bcz. when i run SPAM then it is run only in display mode

thanks

Hi,

You need to run spam in 000 client, in all the other clients only display mode will be available.

Stop your SAP system,

For kernal patching you just uncar the files(db dependent and independent) in the seperate folder and copy paste them in exe directory.

Start your SAP system.

There are lot of posts on kernal upgrade, Please search before you post!!!.

Vamshi.

There are enough posts for kernel upgrade. Please read :

/people/storm.archer/blog/2006/10/02/sap-netweaver-7x-kernel-updates-explained-part-i

/people/storm.archer/blog/2006/10/03/sap-netweaver-7x-kernel-updates-explained-part-ii

And about spam, as vamsi said, you need to login to 000 client for running the spam transaction. the Maintainance Certificate is not mandatory for SPAM transaction.

Jazz

As everyone suggesting you will get lot of help on this buddy...

well...

Before copying make sure you took complete backup of your Kernel Directory ....

i.e. d:\usr\sap\IDS\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386

Also check there is no database service running e.g. Listner or anything.

and then copy both the extracted files to this directory.

before starting SAP check the version using

disp+work -V | p

make sure you have upgraded to your required version.

Start database and SAP.

Check SM21 if any errors.

That's it...
