    If its an ABAP + JAVA stack ( like XI , BI system), you can restart from transaction SMICM >> Administration >> J2EE instance/ cluster >> restart >> yes

    In addition to that, you can restart by login into Visual Administrator >> right click on Node >> restart

    Also, restarting the entire sap system using stopsap and startsap command also restarts the j2ee engine.. 😉

    The link sent by you is very old.

    I am having Netweaver 2004s server.

    As per my knowledge it should be started like below steps.

    Administration->J2EE Instance(Local)->Send SoftShutdown->with Restart
