Yes, if the workbook is saved with the data included, it can be useful to do this at times.
In this case, you would probably want to save the workbook as a local Excel (XLS) file instead of saving it into a BI role or as a favorite.
BTW -- If you are still using BW 3.x, it would be advisable before saving the workbook to go to the 'Tools' button on the BW Toolbar and choose All Queries in Workbook --> Detach. This prevents anyone from reattaching to the BW database to refresh the data. As far as I can tell, there is no equivalent function in BI 7.x, though.
