check, the aDSO is direct update and in planning mode (adso1.jpg)
and the new characteristic is part of the aDSO (adso2.jpg)

Is the aDSO planning enabled? Is the characteristic in the data part of the aDSO?

Hi Saurab,
- direct-update DSO: transaction RSDODS, set corresponding flag for characteristic M from data part of DSO in folder 'Characteristics as Key Figures'
- direct-updata aDSO: BW Modeling tools, set the correspond flag for characteristic M from data part of aDSO in the 'Properties' section.
In both cases a new key figure is exposed, the technical name is 1KYF_M; include this key figure in the aggregation level. If you are using a MultiProvider or CompositeProvider map the key figure 1KYF_M from part provider to the same field in the Multi- or CompositeProvider.
In the query you the use the key figure 1KYF_M as usual.
Regards,
Gregor

You have a cube-like aDSO and not a direct-update aDSO; the latter type is needed. Observe that cube-like aDSO are optimized for delta records and this does not make sense for 'characteristics as key figure' (what should a delta mean for a characteristic?) and thus the option is not available.
