dsEdit Error in Windows 10

Former Member

I have installed Sybase ASE SDK version 16.0 GA, on Windows 10 server. After installation is complete, I try to fire up deEdit and get the following error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail"

Which in the detailed event log shows:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\SAP\OCS-16_0\bin\dsedit.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

I’ve tried installing legacy redistributable packages with no luckdoes anyone have the link to the correct redistributable ?

An additional general comment on the version :

"I have installed Sybase ASE SDK version 16.0 GA" That is really old and should not be your starting point now.

Note that newer SDK (and ASE as well) releases will have their requirements for newer Visual C++ packages.

Update Windows system, driver, and associated program

The outdated issue is one of the most common causes of many errors on the computer, if it has been a long time for you to update your computer, it's time to perform an update for your Windows system, driver, and the program associated to the specific DLL file, it can help you to fix it with these outdated issues.

Check system security and remove virus infections

System security is a hot issue for a computer because malicious viruses always threaten the computer system and users' personal information, any component or file on the computer could be the attack target of the virus. Therefore, in order to fix the Dsedit.exe error and make sure your PC is being protected well. Please check your whole computer system with outstanding antivirus software, then remove all of the detected viruses on your PC.

Hope this helps,
J wick

Hi,

KBA# 2324205.

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Package for x86 and x64 from Microsoft Download Center.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14431

Also, Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable
https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/x/CpV9Gg

You don't need to use dsedit if you want to modify the text files yourself.

Regards,
Ryan

Gday .. can you tell me the name of the text file that needs to be edited .. I can't get Dsedit to work so will need to hunt down the flat file and edit it manually.
