error while installing oracle 10.2

Former Member

Hi,

We are installing oracle 10.2 on windows 2003 SE, 64 bit OS.

Installation went fine upto 99 % and at the final it gave the error that :

" Failed to start the service, Error 0. The operation completed successfull."

and when we saw the services list the service isql*plus is in starting status only.

We tried to start with ' isqlsrvctl start ' from command prompt. But we couldn't able to start the service.

Please advise quickly.

Thanks & Regards,

Caritor.

Hi,

Yes u need to install on Win 2003 Enterprise Edition and i also got the same error when installing Oracle....

I had set environmental variables wrong (i.e ORACLE_Home loc to another directory ) so plz check env. variable set exactly before reinstalling Oracle.

I again installed OS and reinstalled Oracle since registry files and Oracleservice<sid>( in services.msc) might not be deleted when only uninstalling ORACLE.This worked in my case

If you install Oracle the correct way (using the sapserver.cmd script and not using runinstaller.exe) it will take care of all the environment. There´s no need in setting something manually.

Hi,

I have referred the installation guide, But they have mentioned that we can install even on

windows 2003 Standard Edition.

Kindly advise since we have completed the oracle installation and about to start SAP on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition : 64 bit.

Also, I have set the env. variable correctly, but there is a problem with the Java environmental variable.

When i deleted the Java Env. variable and started the process, the process got started.

I am not understanding the real problem.

Should the Java and oracle should be in the same folder ?

Thx,

We have installed oracle 10.2 on win 2003 SE : 64 bit. and about to start SAP installation.

Thanks,

How did you install Oracle? using setup.exe?

You have to uninstall the SE and reinstall the Enterprise Edition. Any of the Standard Edition (Oracle or MSSQL Server) has not been supported by SAP.

Hi,

Are you telling about the SE of oracle.

We have installed oracle on Windows 2003 standard edition.

Kindly confirm on using windows 2003 standard edition.

Thx,

- SAP supports only Enterprise Edition, I´d go for that

- Use a 64bit OS, not a 32bit.If you server is bought in the last 2 years I can very likely run a 64bit Windows 2003.

Hi

You are right...if using sapsever.cmd, the system takes care of it....but in my case i manually added that env variable to a non existing folder and installed and so got that error.

Thanks,

Kalyan

It´s not only the environment variable that´s wrong. sapserver.cmd uses a response file to activate certain features for the database which are not activated if you do a "setup.exe" install.

So installing the database manually is never a good choice.

SE = Standard Edition?

If yes, then not supported, you have to use Enterprise Edition.
