Solution Manager Key during installation

Hi Experts,

I have installed SAP ECC6.0 IDES.During Installtiion, solution manager key was asked.Can any one tell me how the solution manager key is checked/verified by the installer?

For test purpose, I provided a wrong key which was rejected then and there.Thats why I want to know where from this value is checked/verified.
