231 movement type is used for creating a reservation for sales order.It means if you want any material for sales order, you can cretae a reservation with movement type 231 in transaction code MB21.

And later on you can issue that material with reference to reservation by MIGO.

can you give me some more details like, in how many cases we can use 231 and is there any release process available in SAP for this movement type where ever it is involved.

Hi,

Movement type 231:

Goods issue for a customer order (without Shipping). You use this movement type if you want to process the delivery without Shipping. The goods can only be withdrawn from unrestricted-use stock.

Possible special stock indicators: E, K, Q
