Oracle 9.x is not supported for Solution Manager 4.0/7.0, you need to use Oracle 10.2.

You need to install Oracle during the installation with sapinst (it will stop and ask you to install the database software), not before and you have to use the SAP provided DVDs with the special RUNINSTALLER script in the SAP subdirectory.

Hi all,

if you use the new Oracle by example 11g you can create a simbolic link:

ln -s /oracle/IDS/112_64 /oracle/IDS/102_64

The installer run and continue with the next steps.

This is a public open forum, people answering here volunteer. If someone has a serious problem during an installation he should open an official OSS call (that´s why SAP customers pay money for maintenance) - to make sure he gets an answer - and not only "some" answer but the correct one.

I have the exact same problem. Running on Solaris 10. Have done the prechecks and made sure I have enough disk space and so on. Also ofcourse with Oracle 10.2.

Have tried to reboot the machine and then start the installation again from scratch...installing Oracle again during the sapinst phase when it tells me to start the RUNINSTALLER to install the Oracle software. Then when the install is complete also run the root.sh script as root user.

All media DVD's have been copied to a mounted disk storage on the server.

Before the re-install I also have tried to remove all directorys created...for example /var/opt/oracle..etc/local/bin-oracle-files.the ORACLE_HOME folder created in the earlier installation.

Have checked so ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are correct. Have checked the oraInst.loc file so it's correct.

Any ideas?

Is there a way to change the /tmp/stage -installation files in any way to set the dbHome parameter?

Oh, by the way. Before I start the sapinst I also verify that the dbHome parameter is set...by running it and it verifies the correct ORACLE_HOME. So for some reason the stage installation seem to ignore the fact that the parameter is set.

dbHome is a variable used (and set) by sapinst. I have done a lot of installations and migrations from and to Solaris and Windows and I never set that variable by hand. I usually don´t set any of them by hand, the work is done by sapinst.

The Oracle I am installing here is 10.2 v.

Actually I have installed Solman once. First I installed oracle 10.2 then installed solman, it worked out then....

...and this is your problem.

Please: Read the installation guide attentively. It will tell you that you start with sapinst because the system needs to create first the users and environment for them.

Then the database needs to be installed using the RUNINSTALLER (in capital letters) scripts from the SAP DVD, do not use other media. Then you patch Oracle up to at least 10.2.0.2 (the installation is 10.2.0.1) and you will install all interim patches (50+ single patches). After that is done, you click on "continue".

If you don´t do it in that sequence it is programmed to fail.
