Dear Expert,
We have a ECC6 on HA and node1 hosts AS and node2 host DB.
Now when we login to node1,
sapnode1:abcadm> brtools
BR0651I BRTOOLS 7.00 (24)
BR0152E Environment variable ORACLE_HOME is not set
BR0280I BRTOOLS time stamp: 2009-01-26 12.38.22
BR0654I BRTOOLS terminated with errors
1. Is there any doc which explains how to go with backup/restore on HA
2. Also a doc which explains the backup/restore strategy for production
3. For the DR site which method is the best one and how to do it?
Regards
Prash
Hi Prashant,
You can run db and sap instances on different nodes but if you want to run Brtools other than DB node you need to isntall either gateway instance or rsh should be enabled else brtools wont work.
Thanks,
Kiran.

Hi Kiran,
Thanks for the information.
I do have 2 nodes. But when we schedule the backup/update statistic through DB13, it fails.
Can you tell me about the gateway you talking about? How do I install and from where and on which node? Please provide me with more information on it.
Was curious to know, that lots of customer of sap must be using HA, then how do they use brtools, do they install the gateway which you say or any other method?
and rsh?
Your reply was very helpful.

Prash
Will try with the RSH and come back if there is any issue.

Hi Prash,
I do have 2 nodes. But when we schedule the backup/update statistic through DB13, it fails.
Since you have two nodes and DB and CI (probably application servers too ) are running on different hosts, I assumed that you dont have any sap instance on DB host. So whenever you are trying to schedule jobs over DB13 it will try to execute on SAP instance level and sap instance try to execute on DB system os level but it is unable to connect to DB system at OS level (but if you execute brconnect on db server it runs if you have dba tools installed on db server). If you want to execute via DB13 you need to install sap gateway server (from any master CD you can install by choosing option life cycle tools -> stand alone -> gateway instance) or enable rsh at unix level between all application servers and db server. your gateway should be installed on db node and it may take 3 to 5 minutes.
I implemented SAP on HA at several customers and honestly i am not willing to do rsh for security reasons and go with gateway installation. there are oss notes which you can browse your self.

Hi Prash,
Note 446172 given by upender will still apply for you. Just read the reason and prerequisites you can easily understand. This note will guide you what needs to be done. Once you installed gateway you need to setup RFC connection SAPXPG_DBDEST_<SAPDBHOST>. If you dont want to install Gateway just enable RSH which is very easy but remember sidadm from all your applicaiton servers can logon to db host with out entering password. Hope you can resolve your issue soon.
Thanks,
Kiran.
Hi Prashant,
Initially I misunderstood AS as Application Server instead of CI (Central Instance). Then I provided my recommendations.
Please ignore my earlier explanations and apologizes for the same.
You may get additional information with u201CNote 446172 - SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE (program_start_error) in DB13"

Hi Upender,
Very helpful answer indeed. Awarded points.
Will drill down to it and will check as what can be done so that DB13 can run smoothly. If you can make my approach more easy, if u have already done it.
My default profile

SAPGLOBALHOST abc-ascs-srv
rdisp/mshost abc-ascs-srv
rdisp/msserv sapmsABC

rdisp/bufrefmode sendoff,exeauto
DIR_PUT /usr/sap/$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)/put

Can you give me some idea as what can be done.
My DB is on abc-db-srv and as u can see my default profile for various parameter?

Hi,
If you have DB and AS on different hotsts, then SAPXPG commond in SAPXPG_DBDEST_<hostname> in SM59 should run in DBHOST instead of AS host.
SAPXPG commond should execute target host as DBHOST.
This may helps you.

Does in HA it is required to have both the AS and DB on the same node?
