BPC 7.0 M Hardware questions

I am planning an upgrade to version 7. Would anyone have insight as to the following?

1) Page 14 of the BPC Master Guide shows BPC 7.M is compatible with Windows 2003 Enterprise server. Do you know if and when BPC 7.M will be certified to use with Windows 2008 Enterprise server?

2) Also Page 14: In a multi-server environment, Server 1 lists "Hardware - 32 bit" (for the WEb/App/File Share/SSRS/SSIS server). Server 2 is shown as 64 Bit. My question is in a multi-server environmnet will Server 1 run on 64bit hardware?

3) Will BPC 7.0M run on a Virtual server? For example, can my "Server 1" and "Server 2" exist on the same box physically but operate as two different Virtual machines?

Best regards,

Greg

BPC is targeting the 7.5 release for full certification of SQL2008 on top of OS2008. You are more than welcome to attempt an installation with OS2008, but it will not have any SAP Support at this time. We do have some customer thinking about this setup for their DEV and TEST environments and we encouraged them to provide us with feedback that may be useful to pass to the certification and development teams, however they will not engage in any troubleshooting at this time.

Hope this helps.

1. SAP BPC is using Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 starting with SAP BPC 7.0 SP3 (will be released January 30 2009)

2.SAP BPC is supporting 64 bits only for database server not yet for application server.

It can run in 64 bits hardaware but you have to use OS 32 bits and it is really petty to buy a server 64 bits which is more expenseve than 32 bits server.

3. Yes it is possible VMWare is the unique virtualisation solution supported for SAP BPC.

Attention is not recommended to use it for a production system.

Kind Regards

Sorin - are you sure about Windows 2008? Do you know if SAP will certify or support use of BPC 7M with Windows 2008 Server?

Windows 2008 will be certified to use with BPC 7.5 MS. I have no idea about 7. But direction is foward only. So, I don't think 7M with 2008 is officially supported.

I am wondering why you are talking about Windows 2008 with 7M. Any specific reason?

Windows Server 2008 has some features we're interested in deploying at some point in the future, so what I'd like to know is if BPC 7M will be certified/supported on Windows Server 2008 or if we'll have to wait until the 7.5 release for support. If so then that pushes out my implementation of Windows Server about a year if I have to wait for 7.5.

I understand. Then BPC 7.5 must meet that Windows 2008's new deploying feature to pass your requirement. I have no idea on that. Which new feature you are talking about actually? Can you tell me what it is? Then I can check we are going to use that new feature in 7.5 or not.

Question2: SAP recommends 64 bit.

Question 3: Yes, possible.
