i will explain the process that i fallowed, please correct me if i am wrong.

1. first i created info object cust_id.

2.In the attribute tab page of cust_id i created extn_no info object and added it to cust_id info object.

3.Then i added the cust_id to info cube and activated it.

Hi,

We had the similar problem and I followed the same steps that I suggested in previous post and we could resolve the problem. Also, it doesn't depend on type of attribute. Both type of attributes are available in the characteristic relationship tab.

Re-try with

1. Delete the InfoObject from the cube.

2. Reactivate the cube after deletion

3. Reactivate the InfoObject

4. Log-off and re-login in BI

5. Add the InfoObject to your cube and activate the cube

6. Go to planning modeler and open the InfoProvider in change mode

7. On characteristic relationship tab select the 'With Derivation' radio button and then you will be able to see the characteristic CUST_ID in the drop-down.

Characteristic relationship of type attribute is needed only to populate a characteristic based on the attribute of another characteristic.

Take the example of Product and Product type. Product type is the navigational attribute of product.

If the cube just consists of product in one dimension and product type as navigational attribute of product, you dont need any char. relationship as product type will be populated automatically when you display cube data.

But if you have product type also added in any dimension of the cube, to populate this new char, we need char relationship which populates this based on the master data attribute of product which is product type.

In your case, you dont need any char. relationship if it is just an attribute, not a characteristic present in any of the dimension.

Hope this is clear.

Hi deepthi,

i have few doubts.

is the problem is creation of attr? i.e is it needs to create attr info object at attributes tab or info object level?

is it compulsory that master characteristic needs to contain data to appear characteristic in characteristic relationship tab?

Hi Bindu,

thanks for your advice.

For that, first you need to know why do you need a char. relationship.

If just an attribute solves your reporting/planning requirement, you dont need to add it in any dimension and create char. relationship.

If by some means, the cube is having this char(attribute) in any dimension, then you can populate this using a CR.

It's not neccessary at the time of creating characteristic relationship that InfoObject contains the master data. But, both the characteristics (main InfoObject and the attribute must be present in the cube in any of the dimensions. If the attribute is not added to any dimension in your cube you won't be able to create a characteristic relationship.

Create the attribute in InfoObject maintenance in the standard way i.e. add it in 'Attribute' tab.

Can you explain it with an example having some data.

it will be of great help for me.

Thanks in advance.

For eg. you have cost center as main object and company code as an attribute of the cost center. Then in your cube both of these characteristics should be present in any of the dimension say 'Organization'.

Now, if you include cost center in your aggregation levels and you have also created a characteristic relationship between cost center and compnay code then you don't need to include company code in the aggregation levels. The value of company code for each new record will be determined by the master data of the Cost center using the cost center value available in the new record.

Hi Reshma,

Just check wheather the attribute extn_no that you have created has the type 'Display'. It should not be a Navigational attribute, to my knowledge.

Hi,

It happens if you add attribute in the InfoObject after you have added InfoObject itself in the cube.

Delete the cust_ID from cube and activate the cube.

Check if CUST_ID infoObject has the attribute in active version.

Add the InfoObject CUST_ID again in the cube and reactivate it.

Check in the planning modeler if you can see the attribute in char relationship tab.

Hi deepti,

Thanks for your reply.

could plese clarify on this.

is that i need to delete my attribute info object i.e extn_no or main info object i.e cust_id.

Thanks in advance.

You just need to delete the main infoObject from the cube. Don't forget to reactivate the cube after the deletion of the InfoObject.
