Serial Number for equipments

hey gurus,

the refurbishment order can only be generated for materials. If i want to create refurbishment order for an equipment i ve to ve a serial no for that equipment. how can i create serial nos for equipments? is there any other way to go about creating refurbishment order for equipments?

Hi,

You have to assign Serial No Profile, and Serialization level =1 at material master level at plant/storage data 2 tab page for the equipment to be refurbished for the purpose of invenotory management .

Hi again,

SWF5 is the t code for activating that extensions. But i strongly recommend you to get advice from a basis consultant as once you activate it, you can not deactivate it back.

I ve created a refurbishment order and entered the ctrl key PM03. Now i can't create a PR for that material as it is in stock. I was thinking of creating a subcontracting PO for sending the material outside. But how can i make a PR for that material?

Dear Abhishek,

If you activate DIMP / DFPS extension, you can directly enter equipment number and create refurbishment order for equipment..It is not available in standard version, but you can check the screen of iw81 from SE80, you can see equipment number is there, however locked.

I think you can create a refurbishment order without serial number for material only ,if you want to create refurbishment order for equipment you have to create the serial number for the same.

you can create the serial number from the equipment master itself.if you activated the additional view for your equipment category in the IMG then you can view the serial number tab,if not then in IE02 from the menu Edit>View selection ,tick mark serial numbers ,then you will be able to find the serial number TAB . where you can specify the material and serial number

is it necessary to assign a material to the equipment and then assign serial no to it? can't we have serial no only for equipments. Also in IW81 the order is getting created against a material and not an equipment.....

yes it is mandatory to specify the material number ,either create refurbishment order for the material without serial number or material with serial number (your equipment number will be automatically copied in the reference object)

I ve created serial no for the equipment. But when i am creating a refurbishment order wrt the material its not asking for the serial number. Also there is no reference to that equipment in the refurbishment order.

if you have created the refurbishment order , then while issuing the material from the stores you can specify the serial number ,hence if you check the serial number in IQ03 you can find the equipment status will be updated automatically

Dear Abhishek,

For an equipment you can create refurbishment order only when you are managing inventory for that equipment. And for inventory management purpose you should create a material & serial number.

Follow the followings for serializing equipment:

1) Run the transaction IE02.

2) Edit->View Selection->Serial Number

3) Enter the material number on the Serial Data tab page.

4) Press ENTER.

5) The last number assigned is displayed......Enter the next number for the current piece of equipment accordingly.

Note:The standard display of the Serial Data view in the equipment master record can be preset in the customizing settings for the equipment catagory. You will have to activate this in customizing if it is not available.

Hi, You can activate seralization at material level. You have to assign serial no profile in material master. Serial no profile has got some cantrols like when you receive that material system should ask serial no's and proposal of those no's can be auto or manual. For generating serial no you can use IQ01 t code.
