Error in executing a layout which has a hierarchy in lead column

Hi Experts,

I have used a planning level where a characteristic called 'reporting code' is restricted with a hierarchy.

Now when I am trying to execute a layout under this level I am getting some error. The characteristic is used in the lead column in this layout. Two differene type of error I am getting in following two different cases.

1. When I am using the hierarchical settings for the lead column then I am getting the error 'Hierarchy INPUT is not suited to the planning mode.

2. When I am not using the hierarchical settings for the lead column then I am getting the error 'Too many characteristic combinations for manual planning'.

If I reduce the no of nodes in the hierarchy for testing then none of this error is coming. So I think this is related to the volume of the hierarchy.

Can anybody put some light on this why this error is coming and how to resolve this error?

Regards,

Saikat Datta Gupta.

Hi Saikat,

firstly, you have to make the Hierarchy node selection by pressing the same for selecting in the Planning level.

In the layout design, choose ''Key figures in Data column' & 'Reporting code' (and maybe 0fiscper) as the lead column. In the characteristics combination tab, choose 'From Transaction Data' tab. That should be it.

But if you want a Hierarchy display in the layout, choose the Hierarchy tab in the last page of layout setting and choose 'Totals as Hierarchy' tab.

Hi Manoj,

Thanks for your reply.

When I am taking 'all possible characteristic combination' then reporting code is unable to fetch data in layout.

And the hierarchical setting I have already done but the eroor is coming.

Thanks,

Did you make last setting on the 3rd screen of layout builder.

Yes Deepti.

I have made that setting also.

But I am getting the error 'Hierarchy INPUT is not suited to the planning mode'.

And if I don't set that setting then the error is ''Too many characteristic combinations for manual planning'.

Thanks,

Saikat.

hi,

You have to set the 'Hierarchy' radio-button in 3rd screen if you want to show the reporting code in hierarchical way. So stick to that setting.

Then, the first error simply means that your nodes in the hierarchy are not postable. Can you provide an example of the hierarchy and the InfoObject for Reporting code? Also, the node that you have selected in planning level. Check if that node value is in the master data of Reporting Code infoObject.

Hi Deepti,

ok I am stick to that setting.

The hierarchy for reporting code contains different text nodes. and only the leaf nodes are from reporting code infoobjects. all other nodes are text node. The hierarchy name is INPUT under under that there are 2 text nodes in the first level: NO BS and BALANCE SHEET. In this case I have restricted on the node NO BS in the package.

In a different package I have selected BALANCE SHEET node. And there in the layput hierarchy is working fine.

Thanks,

Saikat.

The prerequisite to use hierarchy to capture teh plan data is that all the nodes should be postable. You can't use 'Text Node' NO BS in the package because that is not postable. Select only those nodes which are based directly on 'Reporting Code'.

Text Nodes will not work when you want to enter data in layout.

In your 2nd case you might be using layout only for display and not to capture the plan data.

But it worked for some other layout where in the package the text node is selected. Even if I use inly reporting code node but in that case I will not be able to chose all the nodes under NO BS text node.

And what I written in previous mail in case of BALANCE SHEET text node it worked fine ia a layout. Now I want to make the restriction on NO BS.

In case of text hierarchies, wherein we can plan only on leaves, for the layout to be displayed in a hierarichal manner, we need the following settings.

In the first screen of the layout builder, next to the layout description, click on the hierarchy icon, choose non-hierarchical data model and in the additional settings, all possible char combinations.

In the last screen of the layout builder, in lead column settings, check display totals as hierarchy.

With the above settings, layout shows the result in hierarchy mode.

In BPS layout, the no of rows will be limited. As you have given all possible combinations, system tries to display the entire hierarchy, i think which is exceeding the max limit. Try reducing the hierarchy size or keep the additional settings as "Transaction data" and check if the problem persists.

Hi,

check:

1. You can post data only to those hierarchy nodes that have a data base represention, check you have selected proper node in planning level for reporting code

2. In layout builder first screen select 'Hierarchical data model' by pushing the hierarchy button

3. There should be only one characteristic in lead column and that should be the one which is based on hierarchy

4. Go to last screen of layout builder and push 'Lead column settings' and select radio button hierarchy for your lead column characteristic

Hi Deepti,

Thanks.

I haveve tried all these settings but still the error is coming. My requiremnt is to show the reporting code in hierarchical format in lead colimn.

Thanks,
