Is it possible to connect a virtual warehouse in SAP ERP to a SAP EWM system?

You have to gather more information about your "virtual warehouse" concept. Postings in WM are without values in a ERP system. But WM also does not decide whether a material is valuated or not. The valuation is at plant level. And the warehouse belongs to a plant. Just having stock in a virtual warehouse does not at all mean that it is not evaluated. So this cannot be the reason, eventually you use material types that are non-valuated.

Virtual usually just means "not physical", SAP cannot know whether a warehouse physically exists or is just in the imagination of a user. If you set it up in your system then a virtual warehouse requires the same actions as any physical warehouse.

So the answer to your question is: of course you can setup a virtual warehouse. Just imagine a SAP training system, these are all virtual warehouses, none of them exists in reality.

Hello,

the virtual warehouse does not mean whether it is a physical warehouse or not. In ERP system you can define a wareshouse as a virtual warehouse. (screenshots).

In our case this virtual warehouse has stock of other companies. The stock belongs to other companies, but is stored in their own warehouse. So it is defined as a virtual warehouse in order to see the where the stock is, but not do any financial bookings in ERP with this stock (because steh stock does not belong to them).

So in ERP system they have 2 warehouse. One is their normal warehouse with all their stock and so on. And this virtual warehouse.

Now with their new EWM system, they want to connect both warehouses in ERP with the EWM system. With the "normal" warehouse this is no problem. But is this also possible for the virtual warehouse? They want to have the stock overview of the virtual warehouse in EWM (because the stock is stored in their warehouse), but not do any financial things (because stock does not belong to them).

Hope this is now a little bit more understanding.

Hi,

"In ERP system you can define a wareshouse as a virtual warehouse. (screenshots)."

I am pretty sure that the transactions for the screenshots you have shown start with "Z". There is nothing like a "virtual" warehouse that I have ever heard of. And a warehouse is the least "virtual" thing you can ever have in an ERP system (as I always said, all the other are only planning, the warehouse is the only place where something is really happening...).

What you are are describing sounds like a LSP scenario. That is possible in EWM, actually more easier then in ERP. But it means that you have connected the EWM to the end-customers ERP.

Yes, you are right this is a Z transaction...

I think I have to clarify this with our customer

Thanks for your help

Hello Alex,

our customer does already have an SAP ERP system. We will now connect this system to a new SAP EWM system. In addition, the customer has an "virtual warehouse" in his ERP system. This is also a storage location in ERP and a warehouse number, but set as virtual warehouse. What this means exactly, I don't know. But this virtual warehouse has stock which belongs not to our customer, but to another company. They are just responsible for the storage of this stock. So I think the virtual warehouse is not responsible for any booking or financial actions ins ERP.

And now they want this also have in their new EWM system. And we don't know if this is possible.

Florian
