Windows AD Authentication Stopped Working - NTLM

Hello,

We use Business Objects XI R1 with Crystal Reports XI (11.0.0.1282). Recently it just stopped working (unless you've signed into the actual server) and I think it's got something to do with network changes our IT department have made to combat a virus.

Here is some of an e-mail I sent to our helpdesk but they don't know much about Business Objects. I would love to be able to tell them exactly what they've changed if anyone has any suggestions...

Below is the e-mail sent to our IT folks.

Cheers,

Chris Rutherford

We are having issues with Crystal Reports and authentication, I believe this could be related to a possible change to network security that may have been implemented recently. We have an application called Crystal Reports Designer, when we open it up we need to enter in our Windows AD credentials to connect to the Business Objects environment as Windows AD authentication (using NTLM) is the security mechanism enabled. This used to work just fine (i.e. several days ago) however itu2019s no longer the case.

I can remote to the Business Objects server and perform these same steps just fine, itu2019s like it does not pass our AD credentials on to the AD domain if we sign on to Crystal Reports designer from our local machines. We have the same issue with dynamic prompts however instead of authenticating with the AD domain it should be passing a user name and password to our PROD SQL server. Again when we try this from our machines now it no longer works but I can remote over to the Business Objects server and it works fine from that box (i.e. using my Windows AD credentials).

Just to re-cap the pertinent pointsu2026

1. We canu2019t sign onto our Business Objects environment via Crystal Reports Designer from our local machines using our AD credentials.

2. We can sign into our Business Objects environment via Crystal Reports Designer from our local machines using Business Objects Enterprise credentials (like named users in SQL server).

3. We can sign into our Business Objects environment via Crystal Reports Designer while remote desktop to the Business Objects server using our AD credentials.

4. We canu2019t run any Crystal Reports in design view from our local machines that have dynamic prompts that retrieve data from our PROD SQL Server even if weu2019ve signed in using Business Objects Enterprise credentials.

5. We can run any Crystal Report in design view that has dynamic prompts that retrieve data from our PROD SQL server while remote desktop to our Business Objects server.

Has anything changed in regard to network security in the last few days that would cause the above?
