SAP B1 on SQL server Workgroup edition

Hi!

my client had installed sap b1 on sql 2000 personal edition and was working on a workgroup with 15 systems with no problems for 1.5 years. the server was win xp pro.

he wanted to upgrade to sap b1 2007b. so he installed sql 2005. but it was developer edition, so it is not working on the network. enterprise edition will work only on windows server.

has anyone tried installing sap b1 on sql 2005 workgroup edition? will that work on the network? how about express? I could not find personal edition on 2005.

the problem is that the db has upgraded to sql 2005 and is not downgrading back to sql 2000. so he is stuck with db of sql 2005, and is stuck with only 1 system, since developer edition will not work on network. he also did not take backup of old db.

what r the options i have?

thanks

scorp

    Hi Scorp,

Has your client upgraded B1 database already? That is an important factor for the solution.

    Thanks,

      Hi Gordon,

my client has upgraded the b1 database from sql 2000 to sql 2005 and now he/me are unable to downgrade it back. that is where the problem is because we dont have any backup of the old b1 database.

the old sql server 2000 was personal edition. but still it was working with 15 b1 clients. but with new sql server 2005 developer edition, b1 is working only on the server machine. that is why i want to know if b1 will work well with sql server 2005 workgroup edition.

      any info is great

In this case, you might have only one option to log to SAP support to see if they can do anything.

    Thanks,

    Gordon

      Thanks gordon.

no. i am not trying that. i was not present when the client tried to upgrade without backup.

      anyway. i got 2 options:

      1. try with workgroup edition.

      2. change the os to win server.

PS: i am actually curious and will try that on my test system and check if that works.

Try it on test environment is ok and fun. However, even if it seems work, the risk would prevent you to do it on production server. Leave for SAP to do it.

      Thanks Gordon,

i was thinking of the same. but i was just hoping to do it in an easier way, like partial migration of the transactions. but i suppose this is by far the easiest, but the most tedious way.

      anyway, thanks for ur help.

      cheers.
