Mass maintenance for basic data text and units of measure

Hello gurus,

we would like to maintain basic data text for material masters using mass maintenance. Additionally, we would like to add an alternative unit of measure.

I am having trouble finding the correct fields for this in MM17. Could someone please help?

I think we MMAM to change material Type,

For mass maintaince use MM17,

Select Table MAKT in the first tab

select field MAKTX in the second tab

then continue process

regarding the alternative Unit of measure, I don't know in whcih table/field we find it. Please check the technical information of this field. One you get the Table name and the field name

repeat the same tasks as before

Hi Jurgen,

We mean by " bassic data text" the data maintained in the field MAKTX table MAKT ?

If yes, I find these data with Tcode MM17. I have tested for two items. It is working !!

As said, you select the table MAKT and the MAKTX

execute or press F8

Enter your list of items then execute

copy the new list of description " from the Excel file" and past it in front of the item numbers, in the Column description.

You don't need to supress the old texts, the will be supressed automatically.

ok, we found it:

MARM-UMREZ and MARM-UMREN have to be maintained.

@Meher: No, we are talking about basic data text (one of the long texts), not description (MAKTX).

for adding additional alternative units you have to select table MARM.

Long texts like basic data text cannot be updated with MM17 transaction.. you have to load it with LSMW or BDC or CATT

I already found table MARM, but I do not know what fields to maintain.

E.g. I have unit pcs. as base unit of measure and would like to add pair (=2 pcs.).

So, what fields do I have to maintain, especially concerning unit conversion?

the easiest way is: do this for one material in MM02.

Then do MM17 for table MARM and get all field into the view to see what fields are maintained and how.
