PSA data not accessible after changes in Datasource

Dear Experts,

We are in the middle of a BI Datawarehouse Redesign project and now we are facing some problems with the current data in our datawarehouse.

In our 'old' situation we stored all requests in the PSA, without deleting them from time to time. In the new situation we will start using Transformations and DTP's that reload this PSA data to a Data Aquisition Layer.

But: In some cases the datasource was changed and we cannot access the PSA data from the previous version.

We want to use this data, because we use many PCFILE datasources and we don't have all the files anymore. Besides that, there is a strict archiving procedure active for our source-systems R/3 and CRM (in some cases data is already archived after 6 months).

Is there a solution to load data from the PSA of old datasource versions? All suggestions are welcome!

Best regards,

Steven Groot

Saving that data in the PSA is dangerous for the very reason you are stating ... if you change update and/or tranfer rules and/or transformations, then you could potentially lose all of that data.

Rather than using the PSA to reload from, I build a Staging ODS/DSO that stores the incoming data as-is when it is delivered to BI. Then I can delete my PSA data and just reload from the ODS/DSO. It's much safer and you can actually look at the data and see what it is.

If you have lost your PSA and can't get it back, hopefully your data target still has the data. If it does, you can copy the data target as a back up and load the data from the original into the backup. Then, drop your original dataset and reload data from the backup into the original (transforming the data if necessary).

      Dear Experts,

After some time of investigation, I found the answer myself.

To load the data from the PSA (including old PSA versions) using the 3.x update rules, you can just use the Reconstruction tab on the Data Target Administration.

Keep in mind that, for DSO's, you have to switch of the automatic activation and automatic update

To load the data from the PSA (including old PSA versions) using the new transformations (7.0), you have to remove the 'semantic groups' from the DTP.

In my case I had to load the PSA data to a new Data Aquisition layer (with a write-optimized DSO), so I had no issues with the removal of the 'semantic groups'
