Client Copy with Master Data but without transaction data

Former Member

Hi all,

We have ECC 6.0 Production Server. Some wrong transaction data is generated in FI module in our production server client 400.

We are considering an option where we would be able to perforrm client copy (from 400 to 500 - new client) with only master data (that is without transaction data).

My question is whether it could be possible and if yes, how?

I appreciate valuable inputs.

Regards.

Wolfgang.

Hello Wolfgang,

Your requirement can be met by using TDMS (Test data migration server). More details on the product are available at the service market place and can be accessed at

http://service.sap.com/slo

You will find the Master Guide and the (Solution) Operations Guide on SAP Service Marketplace under /instguides (http://service.sap.com/instguides)

-> SAP Components -> SAP Test Data Migration Server -> TDMS 3.0

and the Security Guide on SAP Service Marketplace under /security (http://service.sap.com/security)

-> Security in Detail -> SAP Security Guides -> SAP Test Data Migration Server

Hi,

As it is a production server, I would go with the first suggestion of going to SAP to clean/solve the problem with FI data. If there is a problem with production data, it might have impact on other areas (dependent data in other modules) and there would be business impact as well. So, a thorough root cause analysis and problem resolution is the recommended approach and if you do not have the expertise, going to SAP is the best route.

As said by others, master data and transaction data cannot be separated (and you cannot copy data without copying the customizing due to data consistency issues). That said, if you want to do a selective copy, you may use SAP TDMS (separately licensed) which has a scenario to copy only master data and customizing. This can be used if you want to simulate the production environment without the transaction data (do a system copy, create a client shell and use TDMS to copy master data and customizing only) to test the functionality and for problem analysis.

In combination with the suggestions above, you should be able to complete a client copy to get the customization data and then transfer master data using ALE transfers (using partner profiles and so on).

Beyond that, if you are talking about the need to transfer subsets of master data then you might want to consider one of the client refresh software products that are available from third parties.

Hope that helps.

Joe,

do you have an suggestions for such third party software products? Maybe this can help him...

Hi Andre,

I actually work for a company that sells one of these software packages (I am a basis consultant for MindWorks which sells SelectRefresh).

These software packages are not cheap. But for customers who need to setup or update test environments they (over time) do make the process more efficient and hence, cheaper.

Instead of listing the packages that are available (since I might miss one or two), my recommendation is to search for them on Google using a phrase similar to 'SAP refresh software.'

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

Application data depends on customizing data, so it can only

exist consistently together with it. Application data is therefore

always deleted from the target client, exception for copies with

SAP_USER. Application data is generally in tables with delivery

class A.

Dear Wolfgang,

well from my point of view I would recommend to open an OSS message for this topic. Maybe they can help you by cleaning up the FI data.

As far as I know there are no specific profiles for just copying the master data as master data is in fact application data. There is no distinction between master and application data when copying a client. But maybe I'm wrong and SAP can help you. I would suggest you open an OSS message and describ your problem. Maybe they have a better solution.

HTH.

André
