Guidelines for user tags

- Could you provide basic guidelines for user tags?

- Are they case sensitive?

- Is the order of words important?

- If a combination of words is used such as in the following example "enable x" would another user tag, such as "enabling x" would make sense?

- If a combination of words (e.g. a, b) is used for a user tag "a b" would the search results be the same as if I had separately "a" and "b"?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your answers.

I couldn't find an answer to my forth question:

"- If a combination of words (e.g. a, b) is used for a user tag "a b" would the search results be the same as if I had separately "a" and "b"?"

Could you please clarify it?

Thanks,

Orit

Hi Orit,

I tested the first three questions on our QA system. You should be able to see the results here:

https://answers-qa.sap.com/questions/50851/testing-case-sensitivity-of-user-tags-qa.html

https://blogs-qa.sap.com/2017/01/12/testing-case-sensitivity-of-user-tags

In short:

  • User tags appear not to be case sensitive
  • Reversing the order of words does matter; i.e two terms written in reverse order count as two separate tags
  • The systems are not smart enough to make grammatical associations e.g. "enable x" and "enabling x". I believe this is something that is possible in StackOverflow. You could submit an idea for this functionality (see Reporting Bugs and Providing Feedback After Go Live), but this would likely not happen in the near future

Regards.

Brian
