Document Template designer - ActiveX on IE 7 problem

Former Member

Dear all,

I have problem on displaying Document Template for Word on WebUI (using internet explorer 7).

I created web service, activated it, and set it to Productive. Then I create document template,

using the web service. But after clicking on Start Designer button, new blank Word document is open.

But where is the XML ? I read on the help documentation that there is XML appear on the Word,

where I can choose the fields from web service (to be used on my Word template).

Another thing, I found that on my browser page, there is error saying :

Details ActiveX is disabled, but required for using this template.

In fact, I had set the browser ActiveX setting according to requirement.

I checked on some sap notes (including 1018674) but still same problem.

Kindly advice if you have encountered similar problem and resolved it.

Cheers,

Gun.

This is the full list of browser settings. Check if you missed anything:

● To allow your users to export the content of a result list to Microsoft Excel, ensure that the browser settings under Tools ® Internet Optionsu2026 ® Security ® Custom Levelu2026 are as follows:

.NET Framework-reliant components:

○ Run components not signed with Authenticode ® Enable

○ Run components signed with Authenticode ® Enable

ActiveX controls and plug-ins:

○ Download signed ActiveX controls ® Enable

○ Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe ® Enable

○ Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins ® Enable

○ Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting ® Enable

Downloads:

○ File download ® Enable

Miscellaneous:

○ Installation of desktop items ® Disable

Scripting:

○ Active scripting ® Enable

○ Allow paste operations via script ® Enable

○ Scripting of Java applets ® Disable

● To enable groupware integration, adjust the browser settings under Tools ® Internet Optionsu2026 ® Security ® Custom Levelu2026 as follows:

ActiveX controls and plug-ins:

○ Download unsigned ActiveX controls ® Prompt.

○ Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe ® Enable

○ Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins ® Enable

Further Settings

In addition to adding SAP CRM on-demand solution to the list of trusted sites and checking that the security settings are correct, the following browser settings are required.

● Adjust the browser settings under Tools ® Internet Options ® Advanced as follows. These settings are relevant for the e-mail inbox in SAP CRM on-demand solution:

Browsing

Unmark the following checkbox:

Show friendly HTTP error messages

HTTP 1.1 settings

Mark the following checkboxes:

■ Use HTTP 1.1

■ Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections

● To enable all the user interface texts to be displayed correctly on the screen, ensure that you make the necessary language settings for the browser. You do this by choosing Tools ® Internet Optionsu2026 ®Languagesu2026 and then selecting the appropriate language.

● Popup Blockers

If you have installed any popup blockers such as those provided by some search engines, your users may not be able to log out of SAP CRM on-demand solution correctly. Either you should remove or disable the popup blockers or the blockers should be instructed to allow popups from SAP CRM on-demand solution. This is also the case for popup blockers that are included now in newer versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Hi Carsten and Robert,

Thank you for your effort, but even after gone through the setting on IE as you both mentioned

the problem still exist!

I don't know what is wrong here? is it due the webservice problem?

I could see the WDSL in XML format apprear on another IE dialog window (when testing the webservice).

But not when I start the designer template (when designing the document template).

Appreciate your help, and need more help here!

Gun.

If I understand you right, you get the Word docuemnt but you just don't see XML shema. If this is the case, the problem is probably that you just have to show XML structure tag panel.

If you are using MS Office 2007, click on Developer tag and then on icon Structure (in the middle of toolbar. Then you will see the XML structure from which you can drag xml tags in word document.

If you are using MS Word 2003 try to search in the toolbar where macros and VB are placed.

Hi Robert,

Yes I want to see that XML Schema from SAP CRM Webservice.

I am using MS Office 2003, I managed to display VB Editor toolbar, Mail Merge, Control Toolbox,

Web, Web Tools on my MS Word document (ms word doc was opened from Start Designer in WebUI).

But I still cannot see where is the XML portion (or button). Which specific button I need to click

on ms-word to show this XML (with SAP CRM webservices-fields).

Do I need to add "New Data Connection" manually?

Thank you,

Gunawan

Is it because I am using MS Word 2003 SP 2?

Does it need additional Add-on to be installed on IE or MS Word first?

I tried to install XML Toolbox from Mircosoft for MS Word, still same problem.

I still cannot figure out which problem is this (IE or MS Word) ?

Sorry, you didn't answer to my message so I didn't get the mail from you. I just looked at this post now and saw you still have this issue open.

However, I check also in Word 2003 how to show the xml structure and the step is the following: goto menu view and choose option Task Pane or you can use CTRL+F1. Then the task panel will appear in which you should see your XML shema. If it's empty, then the problem is probably on web service side.

Dear all,

It is been a while, and I am back to this issue again.

I manage to create webservice and I tested it (click WSDL). I can see the webservice content in XML format open

in new IE browser.

Now, again when I try to use it in document template (with MS-Word file format), click on Start Designer button

I can see my MS-Word 2003 open with blank screen (in .xml format file). But the same error message about ActiveX problem.

Also I still can not see the any XML in MS-Word task Pane ?

Any clue ? Anything to do with SOAMANAGER transaction setting ?

Cheers,

Gun.

Hi All,

Ok finally, I successfully see the created webservice xml structure via MS-Word 2007 Standard Edition.

But still not able to see it under MS-Word 2003 Standard Edition.

In one of the SAP documentation on Document Template designer, it is mention that at least use MS-Word 2003 Professional

Edition.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm70/helpdata/EN/f2/401ea664304f33b8a8353076b1e501/content.htm

I just wonder if anyone successfully use with MS-Word 2003 Standard Edition or lower.

Otherwise case closed.

Cheers,

Gun.

Hi Gunawan,

You happened to solve your issue of the black page when starting the start design, but i am still facing the exact same issue.

Can you please help ?

I am using Microsoft office professional Plus 2007 .

we are working on CRM 7 and we have created a Web service for an activity, now when i click on Start Tool for designing Template - a greyed out blank word document is opening up which does not have any XML Pane ( as discussed in all docs related to Template designer)

Please let me know if anything else is required for me to show the XML Pane and create the document.

I want the word doc where a user also input some information apart from the prefilled information that will be fetched from the web service, Is this possible using this Templates ?

Any help will be highly appreciated ..

Abhinav

Hi Abhinav,

I am turning to you as I am facing the same problem with the greyed blank word document. I have set all the necessary activex settings, but still the blank word document comes up when I click on the Start design button.

Could you please let me know how you solved this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Gabor

Hi,

I've solved my issue. The reason of my problem was that I used Office 2010 and CRM 7.0 EhP1. In this case the grey blank word doc is normal and I shall open/download the template directly.

Furthermore the Office 2010 doesn't support XML if I am not wrong so I had to use Office 2007 instead.

G.

Hi ,

I am trying to create a document template with a web service and facing a similar issue as yours.

After filling all required data and the Webservice , when i click on start the designer , a new MS Word window opens which is Blank and does not have any XML pane to the right as described in all documents.

I have maintained all the required activeX settings also.

I believe you have resolved this issue , Please let me know how i can show the XML Pane in Word .

Thanks !!

Hi,

According to this error: Details ActiveX is disabled, but required for using this template.

I had the same issue, but after installing adobe liveclycle designer it disappeared.

Hi,

I sometimes had this issues as well. This usually disappear once I add the SAP server to the trusted sites and enable "Allow unsecure Active X Scripts"
