Cloud connector server and certificates

Hi experts!

In real customer projects, what has been Your approach for setting up the HANA Cloud Connector (HCC)? Have you installed it to a Windows, Linux or Virtual server? Have you always also setup a shadow instance? Have you installed it to the DMZ or intranet?

Then my main question is about HCC installation and it's certificates. Should we get a CA approved certificate also for the HCC installation? In this guide here, it mentions "...the CA, which signed the cloud connector's client certificate, needs to be trusted by all back-end systems..." This indicates that also the HCC needs it's own certficate. After this is acquired,

  • I guess the HCC's certificate chain needs to be imported to the ERP system (STRUST)? But what about HCI or C4C?

Alternatively, would it be safe to simply use username/password authentication from HCC to ERP in productive scenarios?

  • And with this approach, do we need to worry about certificates in HCI->HCC part of the communication chain?

I really wish there was a clear picture about this landscape and explanations on which certificates are needed in where :)

Thanks in advance for helping a SSL-newbie!
