Providing Current & Previous year numbers

I'm sure this information is out there, but my searches have not found anything. Can anyone point me to some documentation or provide input on how to best do this type of reporting in BEx Query Designer? Here is the results we want in the simplest form:

Week CUR PRV

01/2009 100 200

02/2009 200 150

But here is what we are getting:

Week CUR PRV

01/2008 - 200

01/2009 100 -

02/2008 - 150

02/2009 200 -

Currently we prompt for a current week/year (i.e. 02/2009). Then in a user exit we calculate a range for current (01/2009 to 02/2009) and previous (01/2008 to 02/2008). The range is then used on the report in the key figure calculation. Any ideas on how we can design this?

Thanks,

Chris

We are able to get the report to work. It just still feels like there is a better practice out there, but I can't find it.

Chris - I would put week without year down the side if possible - ie if you have a Z week (without year)

Thanks Simon. That is what we ended up doing. And it works. The issue was that we wanted to show the starting date of the week instead of the week number. We could do that for 0CALWEEK but not for ZWEEK. At this point we settled for the week number.

Yeah thats when its going to start getting nasty - you could put in the week start by using a virtual characteristic I guess and dervive it at runtime (if you get bored one day - maybe something to try)

This how it will display since 2008 and 2009 are separate values.

Remove Week from Drill down it will display in one line.

The user requirements are to display each week, so If remove week I'm not meeting the specified requirements.

Oh but isnt it confusing.I mean you say week is 01/2009 but on PRV you show data of 01/2008.

I doubt if the that requirement is achievable.

Instead is it ok if you just display one key figure as below ?

The below is achievable:

Week KF
01/2008 200
01/2009 100
02/2008 150
02/2009 200

Hi,

Can you please give some more inputs, how you have done the current and previous, r u using restricted key figure or new formula?

Praveen, It's not the preferred display. But it is an option and we are looking for other options. Thanks. If we take this approach then they would have to leave the week on for any drill down.

Khaja,

We're not stuck to our current approach. If you can provide any options based on any approach we are open to hearing them.

Thanks,

Chris
